    Hello!

Thought i best register, got linked from another forum (bit-tech), I'm a member on head-fi too.

    My kit is as below:
    Front end:
    Garrard 401 re-manufactured by loricraft
    RB250 arm with incognito wiring
    Dynavector 10X4 MK II
    Pickering red button clamp
    E.A.R 834P phonostage

Amp is a nait3r (will be changing asap, hopefully to a nap250 and some nac or other)

Speakers are castle Richmond 3i's (used to have Durhams but i preferred the Richmond's) on Partington Dreadnoughts.

Speaker cable is nac a5, phono stage to amp is a custom made silver cable.

Headphone wise I'm using sennheiser HD650's with a custom made cable (gold with silver core) amped by a Graham Slee Solo.

Music wise i listen to most things, have dire straits first album on ATM :)

Nice to see you here. I'm very envious of the Loricraft built 401. Got any pictures?

    Yep:

Poor quality picture but you get the idea.
The plinth is made by myself, MDF with a mahogany veneer. Isolation is done similarly to the loricraft plinth with a top and sub chassis. The top looks connected to the base but it is just free and is resting on half squash balls.

Edit: the sides are open atm but im going to build these up and then varnish/polish it up nicely

Hi I'm new here too....had to give up real HiFi years ago for student days, then missus, then a family, now because of space/time....anyway here goes:

my "music" system is in the process of re-locating into the conservatory (I know not ideal but having two young kids makes space valuable) and consists of:
Arcam Alpha CD player + an old Chord interconnect (from 1990ish)
Marantz PM 7200 amp (always in Class A)
Tannoy DC 2000 speakers (an engagement pressite from the missus in 1991!)
Akai GX-F92II Tape deck (not used often but usefull to ground the system on the floor!!)
(And the odd flirt with my Goldring Lenco GL75 TT, when I can be bothered to set it up)

    For movies:

    Toshiba 36ZP38 widescreen
Pioneer 656 DVD player (toying with a new player - poss Denon 2900 or 3910 as I have a few SACDs and DVD-As and would like them to sound somewhere near to the CD player above!!)
Yammie DSP-AX 620 (looking for a small stereo amp for front channel amplification)
Acoustic Energy Aegis centre, three (fronts) and one (rears)
    Ruark log-rythmn sub......

Done some Cat 5 DIY speaker cabling (in fact gave a 3m stereo pair as Xmas pressie to the boss 2 years ago!) - looking to invest in some Mark Grant cables for video signal and poss for the audio (eg sub) if they are good.

Otherwise hoping to stablise and have time to listen to my dusty collection of software - perhaps going over to a HT-PC or music server system at some point........

    Look forward to learning/chatting
mental note - I must ask my dad to dig out all of those old valves he has in his shed......he used to build his own amps in the 60s and service hi-fi, tv, radio in 50s till the 90s - may put the whole of Russia out of business..............

A Vote Of thanks from a Forum Virgin

    Hi Any or Everybody
Well this is my first post to the forum so I guess that means I'm no longer a virgin, thank god for that.
Main reason for the post is to say publicly what a super outfit Audio Origami is and in particular Jonnie.
Due to a change in personal circumstances I decided to retrieve my Rega 3 from the loft and get it back in service. Having replaced the motor, which I knew had a problem, I discovered that the RB200 anti-skate belt had disintegrated and the internal arm wiring was intermittent on 1 channel. Through this forum I "found†AO and via email arranged for the repair.
The whole exercise took less than a week and tonight I have just relived the vinyl highlights from my collection from the 60' to the 80's, oh what joy.
Again great service great prices and they do exactly what's on the packet.

    Hello

Recently discovered this forum. I thought people are friendly here and 'serious' Hifi discussed - I'm particularly interested in vinyl.

Have been lurking around for a couple of weeks... thought I'd better introduce myself. My gear:

    Forsell turntable
    dCS based CD
    Hovland HP100 with MC phono
    Jadis JA200 amps
    Avalon Ascent speakers

Accumulated this stuff over the years (mostly second hand).

Music: mostly classical but some jazz occasionally.

    Cheers!

    Hi All

Recently discovered these forums and its got me itchy again after 18 years of the same Linn / Creek / Rogers.

So far I've e-Bay'd my way through a series of random and incoherent changes and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Currently have three competing front ends LP12 / Marantz CD and Squeezebox feeding an Audiolab amp which is driving some rather lovely Tannoy Dorsets.

The Audiolab is about to be replaced with some Avondale Naim stuff for no reason other than I love the drive and bounce you get from Naim stuff. And the bass lines, sharp enough to learn and copy.

But I also love the warm, open, delicate and beautiful Tannoy sound and can see a valve amp coming soon, and some huge shiny black GRF cabinets I might build this Summer.

    Conflicted? I'll let you know.

Funny thing is its ages since I've bought so many CDs and records so I must be doing something right!

    Hi lardyl,

As an ex owner many many moons ago of those DC2000 speakers, do yourself a favour - make this your first upgrade area! Those Tannoys were OK in their day (build quality is excellent too), they are a tad off the pace these days. I would consider some Castles or some 2nd hand proacs or 2nd hand PMC GB1s. You will not believe the change in bass:)

    good luck //lamboy

thanks, I may well - was looking at a pair of Ruark talisman IIs in cherry to match the conservatory hardwood...worth a punt??
is the bass just not deep enough? if so I could suppliment them with a sub I suppose? or is it more a matter of control - having switched them for the AE Aegis threes I find that the AEs are quite bassey and sound pretty good - how about swapping the two pairs over and allowing the Ruark sub to take the strain in the home cinema setup.....any thoughts??

well, I did buying a BNIB pair of Castle Sterling 3s from Lintone (who originally supplied the DC2000s, the Alpha and my old M/F A100 back in the 90s). Reasonable price I think for full 5yr guarantee in neutral oak (?360 + 30p/p) - just within budget.....and just got to "explain" to the missus that we have another pair of speakers.....

    Hi all!

I thought I might as well register (onto *another* audio forum :) and at the same time say hello!

    Downstairs hifi is:
    Audiolab 8000a
    Teac CD player
    Denon tuner
    Magneplanar SMG

    Upstairs hifi is:
    Manticore Mantra
    Magnepan Unitrac
    Grado Black cartridge
    Nakamichi 680zx
Arcam Alpha 5se (on its last legs..)
    Audio Research SP8
    Krell KSA 50
Apogee Calipers (rebuilt with Graz ribbons) :JPS:

    Straightthru interconnects
    Exposure speaker cable
    Homemade rack and speaker stands

As you can tell, I like planar speakers :D

Currently making the attic room into a music room and will be looking for new speaker cables (maybe make some) and maybe something for the mains sometime this year. Ultimately the CD player and turntable to upgrade at some point...

Musical tastes are varied: anything from Slade to Sinatra, Beethoven to Black Sabbath. If it is late '60's to early '70's I could well like it!

    Cheers,

    Fraser
