Well system now finished and very happy with results.
    System now:-
Michell Gyrodeck with DC motor & NC PSU/SME IV/Kontrapunct B
    Trichord Delphini MkII Phono stage
    Lyngdorf TDA2200(with room correction)
Stello CDT-200 transport connected via Vertex AQ Illimani digital IC
    B&W Nautilus 803
    (cables and shelves as previous)

also now have a pair of Stax Basic headphones.

Was going to change the CD transport but frankly the Stello is so good i cant justify the expense.
So thats me done, gonna sit back and spend money on software to listen too.:D

Newbie Q about Squeezebox vs. CD

Would anyone tolerate a few newbie questions re. SB or similar devices.

I have an Arcam CD 73 and Arcam 65+ amp driving some Castle speakers and am generally very pleased with the quality of sound. I also have several macs and various ipods and ipod player type units. When I connect my ipod to my amp via an rca connect I must say the audio is distinctly inferior to the CD player as source (even with the highest compression setting).

What does the Squeezebox or Transporter do? When it grabs, say internet radio, what is the quality of output and what can I expect compared to direct input of my computer to the amp or my ipod to the amp?

What would I need to do to access all my cds via such a device (in addition to any internet audio it might provide)? Would I need to copy all cds onto my hard drive @ lossless or best compression or what?

    Am I missing something here?

Please note that I am a newbie so forgive me if these are stupid questions.

    Thanks

    Evan05

    Hello there,

I've just registered. I'm french, I've heard a lot about ZG, so I'm here.

    My present gear is :
    NHT active studio monitors : M-00 + sub S-00.
Just ordered : Promitheus TVC balanced
Source : well... not yet ! Still looking for the graal :)

I'm very fond of the sound produced by active studio monitors. It's lively and gives to some extend the impression of live performance. It's really my pleasure though it's tiring I guess at times.

Well, that is... euh... me :)

    Hello All,

    Primare CD31
    Chord Indigo XLR
    Primare Pre 30
Chord Signatures x2 (Chord Indigo special XLR on order)

Any CD player suggestions, I am wondering about the Moon Andromeda?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

    Hi ..

Already added a couple of posts. My HiFi journey started 22 years ago when I blew the £1000 my dad gave me as my 21st Birthday present on a Technics CD, Integrated Amp, and Tannoy Mercury Speakers.
Since then I have built and dismantled a Tri amped Linn system with LP12/EKOS, Karik/Numerik, Kairn Pro and tweaked my way to my current system which has been recently upgraded.
The best value upgrade I have done is the full Pedersen upgrade to my Orbe SE ... it has to be heard to be believed. My Orbe has an SME309 with a ClearAudio Signature cartridge. I have a CODA P6 phono stage.
I also recently purchased a Valhalla mains cable to add to the Nordost Vishnu mains cables. This has brought the bass in my system into clear and controlled focus.
I recently purchased a SONOS Digital music system and this has brought about a major change to my digital source. I have sold my Wadia 861b and replaced it with a Reimyo DAP-777 DAC, and the Cyrus CDXt/PSX-R CD transport. My SONOS ZP80 is connected to the DAP-777 by Wireworld Supernova Toslink, and the Cyrus via Nordost Coax.
I am currently considering a change to my amp. I have a BAT VK300x SE at the moment.
My interconnects are all Nordost Quatrofil XLR, plus a Quatrofil RCA phono lead . I have SPM Reference speaker cables. Mains cables are Valhalla (x1) into my Istotek Orion, with all components being fed by Nordost Vishnu, apart from the Reimyo which uses the Harmonix cable as supplied.
My speakers are Wilson Benesch ACT.
All of my elecronics sit on Cerapuc "feet" on a Finite Elemente Pagode rack which is on Cerabase feet.
It sounds fantastic ... but like the rest of you, I am always looking for the next upgrade!

Hi there people :) I've been browsing these forums on and off, looking for titbits of information for ages now. I've always been a bit of a music fan and it was as a 12 year old boy listening to my fathers SME/Shure/Stax setup that the "Hi-Fi bug" bit.

    I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've not got a record player. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a poster child for the digital generation - I just can't afford £800 for a deck right now, not to mention the cost of acquiring a record collection. For now, I'm having to "make do" with an all digital setup. Bearing in mind my distinct lack of funds, I think I've done rather well for myself;

Source: DPA The Little Bit 2 DAC, fed from my PC via a VdH optocoupler

Amplifier: NVA AP20 intergrated amplifier (this is a very recent addition, replacing an NVA P50 pre and Rotel RB-981 power)

Loudspeakers: Rogers LS6 with matching target stands (also I've recently acquired a pair of Mission 764is but I'm not sure they can tempt me away from Rogers)

This is all cobbled together with basic NVA interconnects and speaker cables. The PC is plugged into a Tacima mains block to try and contain some of the RF nasties. Also, as I can't be spending big bucks on equipment suport I have made my own wall-mount using 2 B&Q shelf-brackets and a slate chopping board. No really, it works a treat :D

The total cost of my system, without the PC, adds up to £650. That includes the wall mount, cables, absolutely everything. Doesn't sound too bad either, although due some unfortunate circumstances, I'm hunting for a deal on some Grado cans :(
