Would £30 be enough to buy a decent multimeter? I have a £7 one at the moment but I don't think it would be accurate enough to measure those such voltages. On e the other hand I don't want to spend £100 on a tester when I will otherwise only use it to measure 12v output on a PSU where accuracy isn't that important.

Cannot find any multimeter which will read anything less than 200mv :(

If your meter has a mV setting then it will do the job. Perfect decimal place accuracy isn't important here. As Rob says though, some crock clips are a good idea so you can attach before power on.

I bought one from Maplin a couple of years ago and that has proven excellent.
I'll see if they still sell it or something equivalent.

200mV generally means the maximum for that setting. It will do less.

The one you linked looks good. The one Rob mentioned has a capacitance measuring setting too which is unusual, but I don't know how much you would use it in IT.

    Actually, see PM.

:D I was about to post a link to that.

That would certainly do the job - its very similar to mine and is only missing a USB/PC interface so that you can use it with a PC.
The max voltage ranges are higher than usual on the that model - good for testing valve amps should you ever have the need.

Treat yourself - Christmas is coming.
