    Hi all:

I have Norton, but its validity is running out.

    Could you recommend something?

I'm worried about e-mail and internet viruses.

    Cost is not important.

    Thank you in advance.

I've had good results with AVG Anti-Virus. Works well with Outlook and Outlook Express. It also seems to be more efficient on memory/processor usage compared to Norton.

It's free to use for personal use and does not expire either. Go to:

    http://www.grisoft.com

    for more details.

    Rds

I know little about IT. The virus stuff above came highly recommended to me from people who do. it's free and so are the updates.

I use a zone alarm as well

The 3 best anti-virus products according to the independent experts at vbulletin are (in order):

    Nod32
    Norton
    CA VET

I have used all 3 of these. CA VET and Nod32 are faster than Norton. Nod32 is written in machine code, consumes hardly any space and can scan a whole computer inless than a minute! Norton is ok but a little bit bloated...

    AVG is free but http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml?avg.xml

I have been using Norton for the last 3-4 years and had not problems with it. Interesting that there's a decent free antivirus in AVG from Grisoft. I note however that it says it's for SINGLE HOME use only and can't be installed in any networked environment. Since I have 4 machines at home connected with a LAN that might rule me out of the free version. Still, $33.30 for the single user paid edition is a lot more reasonably than Norton (which I think is about $50).

NOD32 looks interesting too. When my current Norton subscription runs out I'll definitely check out the alternatives.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I may try NOD32 and AGV.

    Any other suggestions?

    Another vote for AVG.

I use it on several machines on home network without problems michael, so give it a try. Also I find it integrates seamlessly with Eudora mail client.

No problems here using AVG on both my laptop and desktop PCs, which are both networked.

It doesn't install on any Windows Server versions, so I would think that's what they mean by network environment.

As long as you are aware that AVG offers limited protection... it's failed nearly every test that vbulletin have ever done.

We use Sophos Anti Virus at work, and it seems acceptable to me. I use AVG here, but I cant comment on its performance, because it has never really been put to use yet (I have only ever had 2 viruses on my PC ever).

I have around £6,000 worth of software on my computer. I think I have paid for less than £200 of it. How many people can afford £6k worth of software?

I prefer other people to pay for the products I use. :p

    Honour Among Thieves?

Cracking codes and usurping copyright take the waiting out of wanting but should it be condoned?

    Funny link from Thenquirer.

If you can't afford it then you can't have it - simple as that. There are many things I'd like to have which I can't afford. Just because stealing software is easy and almost impossible to be caught for doesn't stop it from being stealing just like stealing anything else.
