    Hi,

Here is a thread that we can look at next years possible upgrades, down grades, tweaks, mods etc that we hope to down to our systems.

    I'll start.

I hope to buy a killer cartridge. The Audionote IO is heading the list.

I hope to get my Technics SP10 MKII up & running.

I may look into improving the phonostage.

I hope to get the soldering iron out and build some amps.

I may look at one box cd players.

I fancy buying a Leak amp some time next year and other interesting old bits of kit.

I will be buying more records & cds plus getting rid of some.

I fancy messing about with a behringer deq, to see what differences EQ will make for me.

    That's it.
Have new amp and speakers anyway, just havent had chance to update profiles etc.

For me its a new sub system. A pair of HSU subs, active Raine crossover and a Behinger [ EQ subs only]. New cart. maybe a Lyra or ZYX.

Heres mine - quite similar to SCIDB

1/ Continue to concentrate on vinyl
*Perhaps I/O or a Denon 304 to support my musicmaker 11
*New phono stage - my Whest doesnt work for me.
*Buy lots more records than in 2007 maybe fill another Ikea rack

    2/ Learn more about sound
    *Continue to experiment with CARA
*Sort and fit suitable treatments for music room
*Possible action - add a sub woofer if i can find one suitable

    3/ Investigate horn loudspeakers
*hopefully find a good value one
*or maybe find a horn kit.
    *listen to some good ones

Mine is to try and properly revive my vinyl experience by getting stuck into the old Garrard 401 I just bought - totally diy route to make it interesting/educational/cheaper. Sell on my LP12 to fund everything.

Oh yes, and to pick up some absolute bargains via freeads and tat shops, cos I love it.

    Friend...:buddies:

I see the main gains in my world being a *NON* PC-playback'er, coming from the fact that as soon as a DAC handles the processing of data it self, the sound is out of Mr. Bill Gates hands and his gruesome attacks to the SQ having a player excisting on his OS system ????, yes.. *he* evaporates.

And mind you... PC-playback is already far ahead of CD-spinning. ;)

I'll have 2 in less than a month. :bmw:
Another dear Serb will have the other...guess who????

Then I'll soon report you some findings which will be a revolution, if not a complete change to sound reproduction in general.

Have you ever heard a Master Tape: :kneel:

BTW...I see a BP amp on the pic. Sold mine time ago.

2008: No influence from Mr. B. Gates. :)

??????????? -> It's still a 'small' secret among 3 individuals. But no worries. Soon this *revolution* will be revieled.

    Then I shall elaborate further....:)

Oh shit. The green ink has hit zerogain.
If I'm feeling really lucky, I may go for a new Accuphase A45 amp and/or Accu's nifty new all-in-one disc spinner (so much more elegant than Eso-bling-teric), That would probably be my final disc player...
Otherwise, phono stages and possibly some pre-amp action.
Oh, and I spotted a pair of Yamaha NS-2000s yesterday for 600 quid. Hmmm.

    Let's start a group buy.

Use of plural noted. If you don't take the NS-2000s, send me a mail.

    Hi All,
My new years resolution as far as hobby is concerned is to seek out some new speakers or possibly a new room/ house for my set up. In an ideal world everyone would have a large specially adapted listening room for the rest of us it is but a dream.
Why are speakers not reviewed on the basis of themost suitable listening room. other options are to upgrade to a wife who is agreeable with hifi changes. Any offers.

As long as you're in no hurry that sounds like a plan to me.

Yes, whoever it was had two pairs. Very unusual.
I'm trying to find the page now. Unfortunately my memory isn't what it was. Assuming they're still available, I may want one pair for myself. You would be welcome to take the second pair.

    Hi

It is dark today but I tried to take a couple of pictures. They are a little dark to really see unfortunately. It's only a camera phone anyway.

I am now using the Glasshouse 300B for midrange and treble, and a 350w (into 4ohm) Crown K1 for the bass.

The speakers are IPL STL 5's.

I did not build them myself - which is why they are well made with oak stands, external crossovers and such and such.

A more full range sound now ensues.

    Cheers
    Chris

    NB
The Behringer is to help with a glass wall that cannot be 'treated' away without leaving the room looking ghastly.

    **edit**
found some earlier shot of the speakers, and a library image of the k1.
