    Secondhand Kef 104/2's
    " " Kef 105/4's
    ATC SCM 35s

or what else would you suggest for my garage (15x18 with little in the way of soft furnishing). Its a large room and my EPOS14s sound thin and weedy.

    Ideas anyone?

I may be mistaken but I thought Epos ES14s had quite a strong bottom end. Is that right? If they sound thin, I'm not sure what else might work better. Perhaps something else is a fault like speaker position?

ES14s definitely aren't thin and weedy at the bottom end.

However, they are intended to be aperiodically loaded by a porous foam bung in the rear port.
Check that this hasn't been replaced with some standard closed cell furniture grade foam - that will certainly make them sound too dry.

You can get the correct foam from DIY driver stores, or Simon may have some spare if you ask him nicely :)

Sounds like you need more furnishings or sound absorption.

The room sounds horrid and anything will probably sound thin in there because the mid-highs are too "hot" compared to the low-end stuff.

Get some old, heavy curtains and put them up along the rear wall (if you can) then make up you mind. ;)

Tannoy GRF's with the treble energy set on -1 or -2 ;)
Ok never going to be sub £500.

But look at Tannoy Berkeley's - they can go for sub £500 and can / have easily beat £3000 speakers.

    Low WAF though...

Buy a decent sub then to add to your ES14's - Rell Stadium or better; this will sound better than any of the options you have listed.

The Es14's aren't room fillers by any stretch, if you use them as 'near field' monitors they take some beating though, could be combo of speaker placement, room size and lack of furnishings.

Just moved house recently and mine didn't sound right until I got the room fixed, very heavy curtains to cover the dbl glazing window not shown in pics.

Ignored your advice.....but appreciate the input despite

Ok I ignored all your advice (as is my wont;)) and went ahead and bought lots of stuff but ended up with an amazing pair of ATC SCM40s and some Magneplanar SMGas (ok so they cost nearly £2000 rather than £500). Both awesome and I've now got double velvet curtains, duvets and a huge 3 seater sofa that has made a big difference to the sound quality. Imagery and bass in particular are all hugely improved.:) Incidentally the EPOS14 have always been decent in the bass department but not in a single brick garage 18x16...well not compared to ATCs that sound like the Enterprise landing....in comparison check out: http://www.zerogain.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1409&d=1261870496
