Does anybody know what this is? I know its got somthing to do with audio compression and is information that can be taken out of an audio signal which we are not supposed to be able to hear.

However I am not sure what to write on this digital audio recording report as I am totally convinced that compressed audio files do sound as good as the original. Every MP3 I have heared has sounded crap but to be fair I am using a £10 sound card and I haven't yet had the pleasure of listening to them on the Turtle Beach cards at uni.

    God I am bored.

You say you're totaly convinced then point out you're using a poor sound card.

Have you tried ripping your own high quality mp3s? Do that then compare the wav to a high rate mp3 copy. I doubt you'll tell the difference.

The average 128k mp3 is shite, granted. But done well, good resulats can be had.
