It must be months since I have last had a good night out in a club, the last few times we have been we have only stayed for half an hour because we would sit their in silence.

I used to really enjoy clubbing but some magic has been lost and at 22 I refuse to but it down to age.

I think part of the problem is we usualy try and save money, so we get the bus into town, then get there before 11:00 when its cheap. Do you think if you forget about time and just go into town when you're ready by taxi and then go to the club at any time you would have a better time?

Somthing is lacking and I just can't quite see what.

I think it's age. I've grown out of computer games and all sorts of things like that... now I've got a pension and soon a mortgage...

I just wish my local bars were open later they all close at 12:00. I don't like the city centre bars much because they are too trendy and expensive. I am sure there are good bars some where though.

I usualy prefer to go a local gig night at the local irish club, Graham Coxon played there this year as well as the usualy twisted nerve crew.

This night is rare though these days and its now in a pub about 1.5 miles away.

I guess my ideal place would be a local pub that stayed open to 2:00. You can sit down without getting back ache and you're not deafended by the loud music. As I live in a residential area this would never happen.

It will be better when I move out I think because then I go go down to the local with my mates without having to have mates staying over. I always end up sleeping on the settee whil emy mate has my bed.

I guess as we get older we get more discerning tastes and we care about comfort more.

I agree with Andy, clubbing went pear shaped for me when I met current Mrs Summit and Mr Goode wasn't allowed anymore.
Strangely shortly after meeting her I started to go pear shaped too.
There's loads of good places in Mcr AT. get yourself to the Locks or Castlefield or the Village. Is the Granby still open near Chinatown, that really used to be just a late night boozer. All the musicians in Manchester used to meet there. It used to be on Princess Street on the rhs heading away from town towards Umist.
Good god man you're but a pipsqueak, you need to be out there raising hell and a skirt or two as well, when I was 22 I'd stay out all night and grab a couple of hours kip later, then do it all again the next day.

i hardly ever go clubbing any more however if / when i do it's one of the folowing circumstances.

    1) i've planned it - usually to see a live band that i like. in this case i usually end up pissed, sweaty and jumping up and down have a whale of a time.

    2) it's a spur of the moment thing. this is more of an unknown however i usually find that if i just go with the flow of the evening accepting the more drunken suggestions of my mates then it's turned into a monster of a night of course it can all go phutt and turn into silent introspection around the beer glasses or a trip to a&e. the more unexpected, the lower my expectations and the more i just don;t give a fcuk the better the night turns out.
    cheers

Julian you're right, the more unexpected and random the events are, usually the better the night. On the other hand a trip out to get trolleyed usually ends in disaster

I think this my problem as you can probably tell by my first post everything is planned to the minute a typical night out would be:

    1) Arive at a pub 6:30 - Have meal and some pints
    2) 8:00 - Move on to another pub
    3) 10:00-10:30 - Get a bus into town
    4) Aim to get into a club before 11:00

I think if I just went withthe flow I would have a much better night, i.e don't care thats its now 11:00 and I have to get a taxi into town and pay £6 to get into a club because its gone 11:00. It may end up costing at least £10 more but it will probably be more fun.

Because my mate lives in East Manchester, I live in South Manchester quite near the centre he always stays at mine, there is also lots of bars on my doorstep. I do like my local bars but the fact my mate has to stay over means the nights have to be big, it has to be a great night out to make all the hassle worth while. My dad always ends up giving him a lift back as well which is 10 miles away.

10 miles is a lot in a big city.

I suppose some of the novelty was warn off too. I think last time I went clubbing the night was ruined by the fact we were shaken by the incident at that gig.

AT, I think the time has come in your life where you need to spend a couple of years taking shitloads of good liquid acid and cheap nasty amphetamines.

yes, bad biker speed, the universal panacaea. not sure about the acid though, mind you it explains ian's taste in music ;)
actually i tend not to chemically enhance my evenings out any more (not even alchohol) and i've still had some really fun times.
someone else suggested trying different venues / types of music. i'd also second this. i've had some really good nights out in the most unlikely places.
    cheers

Yep I could have had a good night at a folk club but I was drinking nothing but pints of strongbow and the drink got the better of me, Another customer asked to me leave after I accidently smashed a glass we left rather than get in argument. I have drunk much less ever since that night.

I am very fond of my local irish club however not when its irish music nights just when its very generic because its always a young crowd and a great attompshere. Its just a shame its rarely open to the public in this way.

PS Drugs is some where I won't go, alchohol is one thing but other substances I am not going to bother with. I don't even need to drink to have a good time, I just do it out of habbit.

    at,
i'm saying this for your own good and with no malice whatsoever but - take the pole out of your arse and lighten up! you're what 22? and you're hanging out in folk clubs and irish pubs.
damnit get some party smarties down your neck, get on an easy jet to ibiza and go party with some tranvestites and hookers for 2 weeks. at least you'll have some good stories to tell your cats in your twilight years. :D
    cheers
