It's how quiet the background is when there's not meant to be sound from the source. Usually goes with good signal/noise ratio.

Means it was so loud before that it fused the lights.

I think that is a good poetic phase but the problem is I never heard any noise coming from the silent moment in my CDs as it is definitely more quieter then the backgroud noise of my living room with all windows closed in the middle of the winter nights. Compare that to trying to enjoy the Mozart quieter passage in car which is useless. On the other hand pop music start at 70dB and stay at that level or above for 4 minutes until the end of the song so not sure when would be the silent spaces are blacker then black are suppose to be. It is the moments before the next song start?

The blacker the black the more you will hear the illusion of air around each instrument or singer, making images more palpable and believable. Of course if you've never heard it you would be right to take the proverbial, but you hear it every day in your normal life.

I must learn to be more contrite when making fundamental HIFI errors
