Wednesday. Watching the football and my girlfriend calls sounding very shook up. She'd been waiting for a bus into town to meet some friends when a car slowed down at the bus stop and bang bang bang... they decided for no reason to shoot at her with a BB gun!
Luckily she was only hit once in the leg. Cut, and a massive bruise, but MOre shook up than anything. Completely random and unprovoked and no idea who it was.

Friday. One of the clubs round here was evacuated after two women had been stabbed with needles. Again, seemingly random. Both went to hospital for checks to find out what, if anything was on the needles.

Saturday. Again, seemingly unprovoked a guy gets punched to the floor and is then swarmed on and gets his face kicked in while out cold on the floor. His eye looked completely messed up.

What the **** is wrong with people???

IMO, we as a society are too understanding and forgiving of such behaviour. I'd like to string them by their wotsits.

If it was MOss Side then it wouldn't have been a BB Gun ;)

Does anyone know where the Law stands on buying them? I know when I was younger they were very easy to buy and I still see them in shops. It might *only* be a ball bearing, but you could still seriously injur, or indeed kill someone with it.

Manchester police have had a lot longer to deal with the problem there. At one stage, there was on average over one firearms incident every day for over 18 months.

IME B'ham, Coventry and Notts have been very bad for a long time, but for some reason the Police there don't seem to have been very effective.

yeah, I remember cycling through armstrong road (rough part of newcastle - tho I had lived there when I was a kid and was ok then) about 10 years ago when some charvas drove past and one of them threw half an apple at me!

You wonder what goes through peoples heads don't you....."I know, I'll shoot that girl at the bus stop/I know, I'll kick that guy on the floor in the head/I know, I'll take a needle out with me tonight and stab some people". Makes you want to become a vigilante doesn't it...or move to the country/France.

I fear that the link between actions and consequences along with the link between rights and responsibilities has become severed for one or more strata of society and once broken may be hard to fix. The BB toting shooter, the Happy slapper and the chap who kicks the shit out of a dog do not see the victim as belonging to the same world as themselves so why should they bother about what happens to the victim or indeed what happens to themselves? I'm tempted to suggest that these acts are seen as a means of gaining respect from peers if so then what can be done to replace the craving for the latest fix of instant gratification and respect from others?

I watched the latest CSI: Miami which illustrated rather well what might happen when people believe that their actions have no consequences.

Unfortunately not. T'was dark and took her by complete surprise.
I got her to involve the police. Doubt they'll be able to do anything off just her description of a dark, possibly black saloon. But you never know where there might be cctv or if someone else might also report another incident which might catch them. Needless to say, I'd love to catch them :chainsaw: :chop: :gatling: :laser: :chair: :saw:

I think it's like auric has said, some people simply don't think of the victim. Some will luckily just grow out of it. Some will need to see the concequences before realising what they're actually doing. And some, well.......just don't give a toss anyway.

If they'd have actually thought hang on, this will leave her in pain, with a scar, and scared, would they have still done it?

I really would love to catch them.

I blame the do-gooders who have gone to such pains to prevent children from being mentally scarred by the hideously traumatic experience of 'being told off', that kids now grow up having had years of conditioning that has taught them that their actions have no consequences.

Seriously though, all teenagers know that they have to do something pretty damned severe before the law can do anything to them, that they just do as they please. By the time some kids get to adulthood they're too far down the road of scumbagism to turn back, all they know is how to be an arsehole.

Shooting complete strangers with bb guns or stabbing with needles; it just makes you want to beat the crap out of them, but you can't, cos you'll be the one doing time if you do.

The old saying was 'If you can't do the time, don't do the crime'

The problem is that the majority of this anti-social senseless crime is done by people who have got used to getting away with it because of the pathetic way we treat juvenile offenders. A slap on the wrist is all they get for teenage vandalism, possession of drugs, assault, shoplifting etc. By the time their 18 it's too late to do anything.

Trouble is the rest of society, including the police and politicians, has given up and now just accept this as normal behavior. I have these types of people living in the flats behind my house and also work with one (the bosses son who has been to prison about 5 times in the last 5 years for various drug, assault and driving offences) so know exactly what their like.

For the solution I repeat my previous post:

ALL CRIME PUNISHABLE BY DEATH :gatling: :gatling: :gatling:

    This is awful Mo.

I was watching the television this evening. A young man of about 19 was saying how he got in a fight on the street corner over there (he points) with a gang, and one of them came at him with a stanley knife.

''It's like this everywhere'' he said.

"no it isn't" !! I said to the telly (but it didn't reply)

You need to move Mo, seriously.
