Depends on the DAC. If the dac is deriving its clock from the data input then any jitter introduced in the cable can be significant. This is not possible in a reclocked/packetised system which does not enter the analogue domain at any point like HDMI.

Isaac, have you met Dom? Judging from your avatar, you seem kindred spirits.

Dom, you need a track called Kerosene by Big Black. It's on an album called Atomizer.

Dom, didn't you tell us about your love of the more bizarre side of human behaviour, such as serial murderers and the like?

    Isaac,

you try buying a 10m HDMI cable! I am told it is very difficult to keep the signal intact over 3m so there may be something in it

Of course it could be total BS but you cannot currently buy a 10m job for pennies AFAIK.

It is true that you will start to get sparklies and drop outs when you reach extremes of cable length. Higher resolutions and refresh rates can't go as far on same cable as lower ones.

I have a standard 3m lead from my scaler to my plasma. One of my friends brought over a 50m (pretty sure that's what it was) Gefen DVI cable on a drum. It was a "driven" cable and required power to function. On inspecting colour bar patterns there was obvious superior sharpness in transisitions with the Gefen cable. I didn't expect this.

I have sitting beside me a 3M Chord HDMI cable and I'll be sticking some adaptors on it to compare with my cheapy DVI cable later today if I get some time.

    Welcome over here Gordon.

I have the 10m Chord HDMI and will be trying out later today as well so will be interesting to see but having seen it in action elsewhere, it does seem to perform adequately.
