reverse over it 4 or 5 times until you stop hearing any squashy sounds.

Done nothing at all as after watching a prog on bbc2 last night I'm sure an Eagle Owl would have made short work of the half dead rabbit in no time at all. A good few years ago I and a small party of friends were lucky enough tocome upon one of these while we were walking through the North of England (last two days of Pennine Way). We were passing through a small stand of trees and almost fell over one as it was dining upon a freshly caught rabbit, with a swoosh of wings it was up and away and let me say to see one of these fine beasts lifting off like a rocket just a few feet away is a sight to see and to remember for a long, long time.

I carry a stick in the back of my car. Very handy for these situations you can just get out and bash its head v quick and something for the stew pot.

Apart from that don't let it get to you your only human you know!

That looks like the one I encountered while coming back across the levels on the bike yesterday evening. I dunno which of us was the more surprised  I knew they were about but this was my first encounter with one.

Should have lined the car up and put it out of its missury, I once hit a rabbit while riding downhill, I thought it was a rock or something and lifted my front wheel (as I knew I wouldn't be able to avoid it), it didn't move and I hit it with my back wheel which made me jump, but I landed ok, so either it was already dead or too stupid to move, never gave it a second thought.

Yep - big birds without doubt.
What suprised me was to see them preying on Buzzards in Holland!!
Now,anything prepared to tackle a Buzzard, never mind actually feed on them deserves respect in my book. :yikes:

    What, like this one?

I also got to fly an eagle owl that day. And believe me, when you're holding your arm out straight, they're HEAVY. Also got the chance to lie on the ground and have it fly at and straight over the top of me. Deadly silent...

    That's a Peregrine Falcon isn't it? (at a guess).
I doubt an owl of any size would catch one of those buggers !

No, it's a Buzzard (Buteo Buteo). Peregrines are much smaller and black and white.

It's a living creature. It feels pain and suffers.

Some people are just a bunch of arrogant muppets...

Mo Mo stop your hurting me, I feel such guilt over that rabbit I shurely do.

I would be gutted if my dog was in pain. I don't care about rabbits or pheasants.

I am sure if the poster had started out worrying about a rat my statement would have been acceptable.

And as your are stating just one post, mine, the classy thing to do would have been to call me an arrogant muppet.

ONe more rabbit out of the overpopulated rabbit world's not exactly a biggie is it?

I'd have f***ed it - by running it over a couple of times. The idea of belting it with a stick doesn't appeal in case you burst its head and get covered in brain matter a'la Bad Taste.
