Born in Ipswich, currently residing in Southampton, in between have lived in Felixstowe, Reading, Oxford, Bath, Exeter, Bournemouth and Bradford-on-Avon (nr. Bath but more attractive).

Lived in BOA for many years and my folks are still there. Maybe we should have our own little section on here! Any other Bradfordians?

Quite a few people at my school lived in BOA. I lived out the other direction, near Timsbury. Real oo-arr country.

I remember a story told by the local butcher there, in a thick somerset accent about someone else who came in with a somerset accent and

"Iz accent waz zo ztraaanng I cudnn oonnerstan wat 'e waz zaying"

Martin - Southampton is not a bad place to live though. I lived in Swaythyling and then St. Deny's. It's as close to city living as I'd be comfortable with, but up here there is no way I'm going to live in a town or city.

I was actually offered a job in Bath about 18 months ago. Quite how you're supposed to live in Bath on £12800 I'm not sure...

That was a rather unexpected reaction to mentioning BOA! I lived there for just a couple of years, in a flat in the converted Old Brewery on Newtown.

I'm slowly warming to Southampton, but particularly the first 6 months I was here I tended to be away most weekends so I still kind of feel like I'm getting to know it to be honest. Trouble is I've been kind of spoilt having spent 9 years in Oxford/Bath/BOA, so most towns suffer by comparison...

Close to the Ropewalk*, but a bit further west along the road on the opposite side (on the corner with the pleasantly named Wine Street). Nice views like you say though; my flat was top floor and sitting in my lounge I could see out over the river to the Tythe Barn. The flat itself was somewhat 'compact' mind, so not perfect, although I do miss the admirable soundproofing.

*I think that's a retirement place isn't it? I'm a little young for that yet (27). Better post this before my birthday next week mind!

I was there 1987-1990 and I liked Bristol a lot. I was living in Clifton, which was nice :) . I learned to drive there too  . I haven't been back since so it's probably changed a lot. The Arnolfini and the Waterfront were nice places. Used to do a bit of rock climbing in the Avon gorge at weekends too. One thing I couldn't stand was the Bristol accent :chunder: . A west country accent I don't have a problem with but pure Bristol really sounds horrible to me - sorry btw if you have one :D .

    I don't recall him, no.

Did have Andy Robinson for maths though. As in, the same Andy Robinson that is now England Rugby coach.
