I'm out there next week and hope to grab an hour or two's shopping mid town. I'd like to pick up cheap mp3 players (say with 1 gb, around the 50 quid mark) for my two kids - any views on a good shop to head for?

There is only one place: The Apple Store in SoHo on Prince St (corner of Prince and Greene). Of course you'll only get iPods there but then they're the only MP3 players worth considering IMO :)

Even if you don't want any Apple products it's still a great place to visit.

Otherwise, go to J&R Computers by City Hall (downtown) which has everything remotely electronics related.

B&H Photo near Penn Station is also a good place to visit for that kind of thing and especially if you want to get any camera gear. Interesting shop aswell...you'll see what I mean if you go there ;)

thanks for the suggestions. the Archos ones look decent value, and probably less of a mugger magnet for my kids than Apple...
I'll see which place I end up nearest to.

Mugger magnet? haha I like that.

Archos are ****e BTW. As long as you have the PC know how to back them up they should be fine.

I got my GF an Archos 30GB player. It is great. It has some large dents in it and still works! None of this crap about copying files like the iPlod either just copy them on like you would a pen drive.
