    Hi,

Having recently (re)gained an enormous interest in orchestral music I am moving from a pair of single driver standmounts to 2 or 3 way floorstanders...

What would be your recommendation for a fairly neutral pair that could partner a 20W/channel op-amp integrated?
Should I consider replacing the amp a well?

I'm looking for clarity, neutrality and full range capabilities for up to 1500 GBP new or used.
My listening room (2 rooms connected by an open short wall) measure 10,80 x 14,75 ft (system room) + 10,80 x 11,80 ft and the ceiling is 10,80ft high.

    Thanks,
    Ricardo

Lots to choose from in that price range but simple advice is listen to them before buying. I recently auditioned lots and ended up going for Audiophysics ,I just felt they were detailed and relatively neutral but then one persons neuttal is anothers cold or coloured. They are relatively easily driven as well. Others are Neat and Proac but there are many to choose from.

mmmm... horns. something secondhand with lowther drivers. Like a Horning. I could just be biased! Bass wise they don't go that deep, but blimey... that glorious mid range.

SMEagol, I already have a glorious midrange with my Diatones. But I need lower bass for symphonic works...

Unfortunately "real" horns are beyond my budget.

P.S.: My 6,5'' widebands just can't cope with more than half a dozen "different" instruments playing at the same time and I don't really think any other wideband driver can...

why don't you try building something? i doubt if 1500 would be enough for a remarkable finished speaker that can hold its own at what you need them for. it's not only performance but also efficiency: you need 94-95db to get away with your gainclones. can audio note AN/E be the right answer?
my first recommendation would be bastanis prometheus if funds allow or some nice OB with 15" you need for the full force orchestral music. you will find plenty on net.
or why not trying to find an appropriate sub for diatones if you like what they do.
    PS.

It would be easy to find a carpenter willing to try something simple like the Audiopaxes w/ Scan-Speak drivers but my problem with building would be the crossover...

As for the Sub, apart from it's incompatibility with the KISS approach, I don't really have room for it (unless I get a pair to place under the Diatones) because the system is in the family living room.

The bigger Tannoy DC's in the right (big) cabinets 'breathe' bass, it's effortless and natural. They also have a lovely open mid range and can reproduce vocals beautifully IMO. I don't think you can go far wrong with them, even in smaller rooms. All versions from vintage to modern, take your pick (other than brand new which would be more than £1500 I think) :).

Try ProAc's - I like em. The 140's are in that price range but you could perhaps get some D25's for that nowadays...

    Hi,

How about a pair of these.

These Hammer Dynamics speakers come in kit form. You could do it yourself or get a joiner/carpenter/diy boff to build them for you.

They cost $650 in the States but should be within your budget to ship them overseas.

    http://www.hammerdynamics.com/

I've heard good things about them. I was talking to the Owner of Border Patrol amplifier about them.

The price dosen't include the cabinets.

I would also reccomend a kit offering.

Audionote 'E' kits from hifi collective
    IPL transmission lines

a couple more to look at.

Some would give you spare change too.

    Hi Tuga

have a look at www.bastanis.de and check out the Prometheus, its a really simple build. I have built a slightly more elaborate version based on the apollo (pictures over on wigwam).
