My feeling is everyone who lives and pays taxes in this country is entitled if they are able to have time off over the holiday season.

Those who may be effected should have made other arrangements. Can you not drive or something?

    Have a nice Christmas

It's only fair to give those hard working drivers a couple of days off. I'm a bus user, and a very good friend of mine is a bus driver on my route to work so I understand how hard life is for him. With the peanut pay he gets, I think the least he deserves is a little break this season. Get a cab if you must. Otherwise, why not a glass of wine in your warm sofa? It's cold and rainy out there!

i understand what you are saying, personally i don't drive when i even had a glass of wine, neither do any responsible person would, so my sympathy goes out to the hard and under payed workers for the transport , my best friend has being working for the royal mail for 30 years and now faces voluantury redundancy with no pension pay for 5 years, my issue is simple, get time off during and when a worker wants during the year but let the country run it's transport facilities to those who are old and do not drrive to be able to see their family, or is this a way to get people to drive while under the influence of alchohol, ? some people work over the xmas period to keep their income going, the goverment "i believe" should look after their flock,
    rest my case, nando.

They could at least keep things running, even if at a much slower pace. Half the workers, double the pay?

So what are we saying then, minorities should keep the public transport system going this holiday season for the few whites who want it, and to keep them quiet bang em a few quid?

Na **** it Nando, if you want to see your family, don't drink simple. You just sound like someone inconvenienced. I bet you any money all them drivers this holiday season are chuffed to have a day off, the fact they could have earned an extra forty quid to day is no compensation mate.

Nando, I think you have just proven my point succinctly thank you very much, it was you at the beginning of this thread that said those driving the london transport are not the ones that do Christmas, so tell me what did you mean by this, how could it be construed?

You are pissed off that the transport system is having a day off, its not a good point its just inconvenienced you, and now you are angry that I for one do not agree with you.

Coming from the point of view of the services industry of which I have worked all my life, Chirstmas is never a great time to 'earn some ectra money' we do it because our job Demands that we do it if we want to stay in work.

The drivers etc for once have got a well deserved day off, you may be pissed off about it, but I bet they ain't

My best friend is a gay, black, lesbian single mother etc, I am not racist either Nando. Calm down it Christmas.

I and other voters eligible to vote for the mayor of London allow the mayor to rule our lives as he rules by popular mandate.

ken or Boris? No brainer .. No Boris.

I think it is simplistic and untrue to say that this is exclusively the Mayor's decision.

Personally I have always felt that having the option to work at this time of year and take equivalent time off when it is not cold, wet and dark is an attractive one.

    Hi Nando,

I think you will find that virtually all bus & train services were not running on Christmas day. Not just London. You can't blame Uncle Ken for that. There has a been a big reduction on transport of the festive season for sometime.

I have to agree with Garyi, you should have made arrangements with your niece. Many people do and it dosen't spoil their christmas. It was good to see that things got sorted.

Christmas is an good family holiday at ther end of the year. A time for most to eat, drink and be merry. Very few people are that bothered about the religious side of things. It is also a bank/public holiday. People are entitled to a holiday. Some people will have to work. alot don't. Being christian or not is irrelevant.

    Hi Nando,

It dosen't matter what colour. race, creed you are, anyone can be racist. I'm not saying you are but you don't help yourself by making ridiculous statements like the one in the your first post.

    Hi Nando,

Garyi had a decent point to make. True, he did have some swearing in one of his post but so did you. I didn't see him make a racist coment. What has you being a minority got to do with it?
You did make a coment that needed challenging.
