Is it that time of the year when everyone gets the blues because of the cold weather?

It just seems that 90% of the threads these days are ending up in flame wars.

Its putting me off (my usual lurk level that is) - does anyone else feel this or is it just me?

Its a shame as I honestly find the ppl in zg have lots of intersting hifi info to offer.

Lamboy I have to appologise to you and all other members, I shouldn't rise to his bait, I have added him to the ignore list, so hopefully normal service can be resumed.

PS and michael i won't be taking a sneaky peek.:)

i think part of it is that a lot of people here are old lags and there is an element of 'been there - done that' for a lot of us (them). this is also a reflection on the industry in that it has had nothing new to offer us for the past couple of years.
i'm hoping to rekindle my waning interest in hi-fi with a few diy projects (the way i think the industry will eventually go - diy and small specialist manufacturers vs the big home cinema co's)
i've never believed that flame wars here have been offputting as they are always interesting / funny / cringemaking in a rubbernecking at a carcrash kind of way, but then that's just me.
    cheers

Sorry Lamboy - I'm as much to blame as anyone.

Trouble is Julian's right - there's nothing new to talk about and when anyone tries, one of the old school tries to divert things.

I've added one member to my ignore list too, so hopefully we can start to clean things up :)

I think Julian is right about the industry. I am running out of cash myself, so i have to curtail my hobby.

I was guilty aswell, of joining the wars, but since have added a user to my ignore list, he still seems to be doing utmost to ruffle some others. I think the ignore should be used more, in these case's.

yeah Rob but petty points scoring and circular arguments, can be tiresome for others, I will desist, I have a funny feeling the 3 of us might be ignoring the same member, but I can't be sure, If you still don't know, have a wild guess.:)

AK, if you're going to ignore someone, the best way to do it is simply to ignore them, not try and get everybody else to say whether they're ignoring them or not.

If people just ignored things that wound them up, there'd be no petty squabbling, and there might even occasionally be a thread about hifi.

i try and stay away from petty arguing's and the like.
everyone has an opinion and likes to make their statement but lifes to short to spend it with only your own opinions and ideas.
aww ive gone all mushy and philosophical (i bet ive spelled that wrong) now.

I agree with what Ian said above. There are always ups and downs in forums. Recently I haven't had enough time to moderate adequately and nip the stupid arguments in the bud so they've had time to fester and then tend to re-surface in every other thread.

I think many people have reached a point where they're happy with their system and so are less interested in dicussing hifi and are just getting on with listening to music. I'm certainly amongst those people.....at least for the time being.

    Michael.

Ian I never mentioned my ignore list to prompt other, was mearly offering assurance to others that I would not rise to his bait, thus preventing the petty arguments. Hope this clears it up.

I dont think zerogain has gone downhill. I still read it every day.

I think familiarity can breed contempt, and mis-understanding is rife.

As a very wise man once said, nothing on an internet forum can offend me because I dont take it that seriously.

This place gets more interesting the more members it attracts, and the more effort existing members take into writing well researched posts IMHO.

    :)

I feel this rings true for more than one or two members now. :)
Having dipped into the 'Pot of wondrous and shiny things' myself on more than the odd occation, and found it sadly lacking
It took a while to realise the only way to 'Sanctify yourself' & find the sound that does it for you, you know the one, you just press play and you don't wanna move, until you have to swop discs/Vinyl.
It's taken me a while to find it, but it is attainable :)
An awful lot of new equipment is vastly over rated and over-priced, and I find falls well sort of the mark.
I am fortunate enough to sample the lastest goodies from time to time, but as Merlin as stated really nothing 'seriously different or signifiacntly better' has reared its head in the last 24 months or so, or that mere mortals can afford :(
I keep coming back to my base equation, yes I've added a part of 2 here and there, however the main stay of the equipment is the same as it was over 2 years ago, and I'm guessing here quite a few members fell the same way.
The danger is getting too blazie', new blood is esstenial for the life cycle of a forum.
It draws its neutrants & vitality from this, prehaps we all could be a little more enthausiatic too, and offer advice to the newer memebers more.
Still this just part of the evolutionary process all interactive bulletin boards go through. Wm

    Alex, you are a treasure.

I guess I'm meant to feel all sad, left out & lonely now that three numpties have decided to 'ignore' me. In fact, the opposite is true.

I've put myself on my own ignore list, and am much happier as a result.

I've noticed that quite often, some of the more opinionated/expeienced members are MOre likely to reply to posts from other established members.
