Just to point out that I merely deleted the posts because they contravened the AUP and not out of anger or malice. I understand that it's perfectly possible to have a jovial and harmless discussion about a banned member (as was occuring) but I couldn't reasonably allow those posts to remain and then later delete others (perhaps more malicious) for breaking the AUP. That's the route to accusations of biased moderating.

This is a free forum and the guys who run it spend a lot of their own time and money to keep it going.

We are humans and constant nagging and it picking can be annoying. So why not try and post something that is thankful and encouraging.

That was why I made the post I did and re-opened the thread :) . I certainly don't have any issue with you, Dev, Ian, Joel, Reg and whomever elses posts I delted this morning on this thread.

I know, and I didn't take it personal at all.

That't enough of your time taken up with this issue, I'd say.

Wasn't trying to stir anything, on the whole The Management here seem to make reasonable decisions, and do a good job. Still not convinced by this one, but I'll say no more.

I don't think ZeroGain is going downhill at all, in fact I think it is going from strength to strength.

I tend to compare ZG against other fora I visit and all in all the patient is alive and kicking although sometimes some contributors may feel they have been kicked unfairly by others but judging from what I can see this does not happen all that often. One of the fora I frequent has a habit / tradition adopted by most of greeting new users and offering advice no matter how many time a particular question may have been asked or indeed no matter how stupid the question may seem from an experienced members point of view. This to my view is not a bad practice to adopt and as a result you do not often see a reply along the lines of “RTFA dog breath†or other such Oscar Wilde class remarks being posted.

I know this may be a rather quaint and old fashioned view to some but if you treat others as you would wish them to treat you then I feel you can't go far wrong and ZG will continue to flourish with the minimum of moderator intervention.

    Ditto.

Now can we get back to Merlin's lack of friends or whatever we were arguing about?

If anyone wants to see who does what (and who is banned), then click on the view forum leaders link on the ZG main page.

Cheers Robbo - didn't know about that Forum Leaders link myself :shame: . Since people will go there they will inevitably see that TonyL is also listed as a moderator and I didn't mention him above. He's an honorary moderator, connected with something he was looking into on PFM but he's not "a moderator" as such, if you get my meaning :)

    Paul,

What did Michael just say about mentioning banned members?

Thanks for the Forum Leaders link Robbo, at least that answers one of my concerns regarding the AUP. And while I'm using up bandwidth, thank you Michael for taking a very level headed view on this issue, sense of humour intact!

Actually, as a new member of the forum, I think Lawrie made some interesting and valid points.

I read ZeroGain on a daily basis for 6-12 months before I registered, so I'm not simply referring to my experience since becoming a member.

I think this very thread is a perfect example of some of the issues Lawrie was trying to highlight. He gives his opinion and the 'usual suspects' respond by attacking him en-masse. I suspect that if you are one of the 'usual suspects' its difficult to appreciate how this appears to newer members.

I'm offering my opinion having never battled with Lawrie in the past and hence do not reads his posts with any preconceived ideas.

If you read his early posts, he does appear to be deliberately causing controversy and trying to get himself banned. But if you can ignore that, there are some valid observations in his posts.

Having said all that, I still find ZeroGain the most interesting of UK forums, but I'm more careful of the opinions I post on here than on others.

99% of the time and effort is all Michaels, and 100% of the financial backing.

We mods help where we can, but ultimately we all owe Michael a big debt of gratitude for this forum.

    Thanks !

    Hi Chris,

I think that is appreciated by everyone on this forum. Having said that while I appreciate his generosity, is there any way we can help?, apart from just behaving ourselves, that just won't do :D.

How does he find the time?
