I would like to point out that I've not been smiling much since the REL thread. Excessive smilies are arse, not a nice bethonged peach, but a big flabby job that needs two bus seats.
Smilies scream look at me aren't I funny. Best used when you aren't sure whether the person you're addressing has a sense of humour

Blimey missed all the fun

As for Lawrie's comments, well the only way to really wind people up is to post something that they know is a little too close to the truth for comfort.

So now we shouldn't tell it like it is because it might offend our more sensitive members. That'll make things interesting - a mutual love in like the CJ & Lawrie show of old dudes! Most people take forum ribbing in the spirit it is intended Lawrie - only the immature seen to get offended.

Funny - never took Lawrie for being overly sensitive fiven his history.

That's right, Merlin. You got pretty upset about the shortcomings of passive crossovers.

don't really want to extend this thread, except to request that all deal with others on face value, erring on the side of generosity of interpretation of mis-spelling and mis-statement.

we are all trainees in this life. everyday is a school day.

I just hope that those that know a lot continue to be prepared to share their wisdom, with reports of dead-ends as well as satisfaction with choices. And that the rest of us tolerate the occasional lapse that shows impatience that the same question has been asked more than once this year/decade - no Dax pun intended

Well, I am not sure what the ;) is meant to say by some people. And signing off with a big grinning face is rude. To me it says "look at my big grinning face".

Well guys I have to say that, apart from my first few days on ZG, I've had remarkably little abuse. I think I must be accepted as ZG's 'pet speaker designer'.

In fact, I have been forced to post on the 'Padded Cell' section of the Naim forum just for aggravation and to get a decent mauling. ;)

disclaimer: I do not own, nor have I ever owned any Naim boxes (with the exception of a cute, little integrated thing that I had in my garage and sold without having heard). However, I did supply my speakers to be reviewed with a Linn/Naim set up, so I'm allowed to post on the Naim forum - so there.

I think the real problem with Zero Gain is that it has no clear identity. Other forums do.

As a result Zero gain appears to have nothing to offer (well named perhaps) if it had an identity it might be easier to moderate and people would be happier to post.

Adding more rooms will not work.

Adding a new icon at the top will not work.

The other problem is manufacturers spouting their wares, often to the detriment of other manufacturers which puts a lot of people off, especially those that might have differing opinions.

Hense why it broadly pointless posting the main room. The chat room has some interesting stuff though.

Agreed! However, I couldn't be bothered to go into details as to why I use them hence the response to Notaclue, who I must say has a very interesting handle.:MILD:

Notaclue - Where does that handle stem from? Was it a nickname or something?

    Enjoy the music,

One point which is indicative. Here we are on page 7. Garyi has just made a valid and interesting point. It is ignored because everyone is too busy taking personnal pops t each ever.

As Gary would say "FFS move on."

    gary,
for me the strength of zero gain is that it has no drum to bang or philosophy to peddle. this can get in the way of things. for example a good converstion i was having with one of the guys over on the naim forum has been locked - presumably because i wasn't toeing the naim party line. flat, round, cheap, expensive, believers, sceptics, all are welcome at zero gain. sometimes this can cause problems due to diametrically opposed opinions however as i said before, to me this makes it a decent place to be, although sometimes a little spicy.
    cheers

Gary I'm with Ju on this one, zerogain is for all those that don't want to nescessarily have to toe any lines or fit in any boxes, I kinda like the fact that the moderation is not as stringent as some, I feel there is an awfull lot to offer from most of the members and as such have learned quite a bit from lurking round here, It's a bit like going to the pub without having to walk home, I usually check the board as much as I can and if I can't allways offer help, I sometimes try and inject a bit of humour into it, I think the mods are doing a greta job, it's like we're allowed to discuss/argue things like adults, and I wouldn't change a thing, best forum on the net.

I agree. zeroGain may not have a clear 'identity' but it certainly has a 'flavour' and freedom.

Also, I've been to a few hi-fi shows where forum members have met up en-masse and great fun they've been too - the occasional bake-off as well.

Anyway, who says it's going downhill?

I newer mentioned toeing party lines or one box forums.

The relative freedom from moderation here (or one might argue the lack of moderation here) has led to what is broadly speaking a pointless forum.

If the talk is on HIFI the owners should insure thats what happens, and ban those that have nothing to contribute (yes I get the irony)

Zero gain sits no where and therefore has no identity thats all I saying, to say this sets it free is bollocks as can be evidenced day in day out here, its full of in fighting clique, 'sellers' and shit stirrers.
