    This is patently not true. I don't even read most of the threads here because they are irrelevant to me.

    Which bit is not true?

    A guys says "HI" and the thread degenerates into a Mana debate.

    Ken asks a question and the same happens.

    When did they ask for any advice? Mana or otherwise?

    No ducking James - you know as well as I do the number of people on this forum who have gone for something more to their taste, myself included. There's little point in posting further as it will only develop into the usual rubbish that a certain product seems to provoke - I really cannot see the point unless some members are actively seeking to promote a product outside of the usual channels.

    This bit: "almost every good thread seems to generate into this farce"

    You have to examine the reason for the degeneration. Your hysteria is the root cause, IMO.

    That would be you and AlexS, then. Two people, in other words. A landslide.

    Glad it's sunny outside. Gives a damn fine reason not to see another thread go down the mana bog pan :rolleyes:

    Posts like that one are so helpful. We are all aware that you are in a big huff/strop with me: most of your recent posts seem to be exclusively about that, so unless you have something pertinent to contribute, why can't you give it a rest?

    The fact that you are in a nark with me bothers me not at all. In fact, I'd be grateful if you would actually ignore me properly and not respond at all.

    I said (sorry wrote!) "almost every good thread". I didn't say every thread. So technically I'm not wrong if I didn't like the other threads :D

    Don't take this too literally PLEASE.

    greg, penance et al: you will never "win" an argument with Bub about Mana. Everytime you reply to his posts you just continue the whole thing. The sensible thing to do would be simply not to reply and let him have the last word.

    Quite true. I have closed my end of the transaction as I commented earlier today. Every logical and reasonable point of view has been said, no need to repeat any of it. Regards Greg.

    Au contraire. You can't stop yourself.

    Shame it's the same reply every time, eh?

    penance, if Bub is on your ignore list then you don't see his posts unless you specifically click the "view this post" button. Not much point in the ignore list feature if you're constantly doing that!

    Micheal, I am not viewing his posts, I realy cant be bothered with them. They would only be repeats of what he has said before.
    If it gets to bub that he is on my ignore, well, his problem.

    My thoughts (FWIW) on the original question.

    It seems as though the underlining answer is that there is no one single answer, which was to be expected.

    A number of recurring themes do crop up though;

    Familiarity breeds contempt;

    UK has a number of brands that are very highly respected around the world, however because they have been brands on sale for 30 years or more, they are no longer thought of as 'exciting' brands to own.

    Not respected in UK;

    The brands I listed seem to be a lot more respected for sound & build quality outside of UK then on their own patch. I have travelled extensively and UK brands are still very sought after. Just look at sites like AudioGon or the Japanese equivalent, Naim, MF, Meridian & BW never hang around, they are snapped up faster than almost any other brand.

    Magazine reviews are biased/corrupt;

    Don't know if this is true, sure in the 80's & early 90's the UK Linn/Naim faction was way over the top, but the same UK brands also receive rave reviews in Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Australia, USA, Canada and even in some European Mags. They cannot all be biased in favour of a few UK brands, they certainly cannot all be in the pocket.

    All of the brands I named are excellent at what they do, but they do have a common thread, they have an 'house' sound. Then again so does Krell, McIntosh, Audio Research, but you rarely if ever hear the US Audiophile criticising them.

    But surely we are not as Greg indicated,

    “Oh yeah, plus the british are a bunch of insecure, winging, backstabbing tossers who love to slag each other off.â€Â

    Spot on and these fora are testamount to that.

    Any element of success gets knocked.

    Mick,

    Perhaps it would be best if you emigrated to a place you feel is more deserving of your talents and leave us whingers in peace.
