was there really need to do that? how much longer did it take to bust the windows and thread the hose through rather than just go roound the front of the car (or over the top)? still it's a beemer so any abuse is deserved ;)
    cheers

I think they probably have to keep the pipe path as short as possible and smashing the windows of a clapped out beamer is the best way.

They must have loved an excuse to smash up an old 3 series :D

Good job its not in this country, the brigade would get their ass sued big time for doing that!

Yes, there was. A firehose is not that flexible so a sharp bend just before the hydrant wasn't possible. I imagine it wasn't even that easy to get the angle coming through the window.

I seriously doubt they would have gone to the trouble of smashing the windows and clearing all the glass away (to avoid cutting the hose) if there had been another solution.

It's the US, the most litigious country in the world, if they didn't get sued there then they wouldn't get sued here. At most they might have to pay for the repairs.

Ahh - but this is the USA isn't it - even more chance of being sued!

The firemen involved probably watched too much "Backdraft" - although wasn't it a Merc they mashed in that one??

Fire hydrants are pretty obvious aren't they? Having lived in the US, I know that everyone knows that it's stricly forbidden to park next to a fire hydrant. The fines for doing so are about 10x the normal parking fine.

I actively enjoy driving my BMW. It's bright red, very fast, and irritates the tits off non-BMW drivers. Balls to you all.

    A red BMW? WTF?
Surely that's Alfas and Ferraris and Lancias and the like?
However, it's still nice to know you've paid way over the odds for something.

not if you live in the UK they aren't...if I happened to drive over there, I would have probably done the same, I guess that a lot of people would..? how often do the hydrants get used..?

In the UK they are different. There's usually a metal plaque with a black H on a yellow background stuck to a wall nearby indicating where exactly the hydrant is. In the UK they're often in the middle of the road or the pavement and all they are is a small panel like a manhole cover (but smaller) covering the actual outlet. AFAIK there aren't restrictions regarding parking next to hydrants in the UK because a parked car usually won't obstruct access to them.

michael, surely the bend is tighter going through the window than it would have been going round the front of the car. don;t get me wrong the guys a dick (just look at what he's driving ;) ) but it seems a little ott to bust the guys windows when another (possibly better and quicker to impliment solution) was available. perhaps the firemen were also bmw drivers.
agree with you about hydrants being bloody obvious and most should know not to park in front of them (i knew and can't even remember how i found out).
    cheers

    julian.

p.s. please understand that my anti bmw comments are made in an entirely tongue in cheek way - i'm just pandering to the stereotype - i couldn;t give a toss what people drive - i drive a big red bus for gods sake so who am i to talk. if they cause offence - sell your car or grow thicker skin.

Why is that "nice to know"? Smalls by name, small-minded by nature. Extra balls to you.

FWIW, the car cost £15,000, over five years ago. Cheap, in my book, all things considered.

Good to see our learned doctors are just as petulant as the patients they deign to patronise...
It's probably a blessing I only sniped at BMW - heaven knows what would have happened if I'd dared to mention *** or ****!!!!
