Didn't know anything about that, but having just looked it up it seems he's only sold 12 million which leaves him with over 1 billion still!

So I think what they are saying is, 'yes Vista was a total failure so we have put an apple dock on it'

Well Windows Vista is quite a joke, I have it both system:

Celeron 1.8 single core, 1.5 gb ram (laptop) Vista Basic, no virus protection no nothing, I stopped all the none essential service

Bussiness PC :- AMD 4600 X2, 2GB RAM, 8600 GT, Vista Premium is 2 times better spec but takes much longer to load

Windows 7 is supposed to rectify this

I don't care how long it takes to load, I want it to work quickly when its booted up and I'm using it! Who turns their computer on and off more than a couple of times a day anyway?

I have only used Vista for about 30min in total on other peoples computers. Every time, it manages to seriously aggravate me within about 5 mins! I try not to get pissed off but I can't help it, they seem to have removed any user interface in some bizarre aim to make it 'easier'. Windows 7 looks like even more of a bad idea to me. It seems by listening to joe public they are trying to make using a computer like using a TV, but it simply isn't possible, and by trying to do that they are removing the user from any decisions or understanding of what is actually going on. In turn that just makes most people even more computer illiterate than they already are.

Apple OSX is for people who can't use a computer, Windows is for people have have a slightly better idea and Linux is for geeks. That's a good balance and it should stay that way, bah-humbug!!

By the way, does anyone remeber a game that used to run on the IBM XT, and I think they made a newer version for the 486. It was called Continuum and it had wire-frame little 'jumper' spaceship type things in a big wire-frame room. You had to bounce on these jump pads and work your way up to the exit in the room to get to the next level. It was pretty cool being 3D in those days, and I've been trying to get hold of it but no luck looking for it on Google. Anyone got a copy somewhere on an old 5 1/4" floppy? :D

Well, I've downloaded this monster onto the second hard drive in order to keep Windows XP, overwriting the Vista Beta. Vista was and is rubbish and I gave up mucking around with it. Windows 7 doesn't seem to be any improvement either: totally fails to find and load drivers the router hub, so networking don't work. As the access to the internet is through the router, so that all computers in the house can access the Internet, WIndow 7 fails to get connected. As all the help files are on the Internet, there is no way of resolving this. I seem to recall that networking was the big bugbear of Vista and W7 seems to be following it.

Whilst waiting for the Orange broadband disk to install whatever it could and taking yonks to do it, I clicked on Mahjong to while away the hours: this locked the computer with alt-ctrl-delete failing to bring up any dialogue box. Gave up and manually rebooted back into XP.

So far - not impressed but will probably play with in idle moments.

MS also don't have a modern OS that can be used on Netbooks.

XP is fine on my netbook and I consider it modern enough. In fact Ubuntu seems to run slower.

It's XP home and should work okay but does not allow the degree of integration with the web that the latest Mac OS or even Vista.

And XP is really 'bloaty' when it comes to updates - so much so a netbook might throw a fit when the hard drive fills up with update 'backups'.

The way I have Vista turned on on my Celeron 1.8/1.5gb RAM laptop it can be made to run very very very fast. Its as fast as XP on this spec. It is my desktop which is just extremely slow to boot but its very fast after the 5 minute loading time.

What sort of web integration are you thinking of?

I turn off updates, they are crap, as you say. Service pack 3 is all I bother with.

To be honest, a lot of it's what you might already get with Vista (I have to say at this point, I don't have Vista) so at a guess, things like RSS feeds and access to social networks direct from your desktop w/out 3rd party apps.

What 7 does have, which while not web integration, is the ability to do searches of online databases w/out using that db's front end, 7 is also the first step from MS to exploit cloud computing (although this can already be done via Google's online services) and 7 has canned .NET in favour of SOAP which means service-oriented apps can be developed.

Nothing that you can't get from Ubuntu or Mac OS's already though.......

But, as I said previously, MS are desperate for a new, 'lean' OS to act as a platform for all of the new stuff on Vista but which can't currently be run on netbooks.

I use ubuntu at home, but have no option but to use MS products at work.

Seriously though, when MS withdraw support for XP/Vista or any of their OS or other products what else will most corporations do except "upgrade".

Does the new version uninstall Vista and install Mac OSX for Windows*, that would be an improvement. tee hee. *I know there is no such thing!

Even Windows website looks nerdy and difficult to navigate, good to see they still have a "house feel" to their output. :D

Its like "Oh God, we've got the world at our feet with this sad donkey" they must be bricking it with every compounded buggy release.
