Downloaded it today at work and chucked it onto a CD. Installed it earlier this evening and so far so good.

Just download and use it. They want you to use the automatic update for some reason, but really theres no need and you'll have to use it if you want a slipstream copy.

Robert, install it from the exe it works fine.

The exe file contains way more files than the standard PC, it's designed for PC admins who need a package that contains everything.

The other thing they are doing with windows update is releasing SP2 to one block of IP addresses at a time so they don't max out their internet connection.

Will install this at the w/e. A word of warning to anyone with a "cracked" copy of XP: Microsoft have put code into XP2 that recognizes the most common serial nos of cracked versions and disables them ;)

The only reason microsoft put that on the site is so that most users will download 60-70MB, rather than 270MB. 200MB times several million users = HUGE bandwidth saving.

EVEN THOUGH Microsoft has not yet released service pack 2 for Windows XP, word reaches the INQ that its anti-piracy features have already been cracked open.
Microsoft has claimed that it's introduced features in SP2 which mean that illegal users of stolen or cracked activation codes won't be able to upgrade the OS, which is due for release in August of this year.

However, sources in the community are claiming that there's already a keygen for service pack 2 out in the wild that will bypass the security arrangements.

Michael, the same thing happened when SP1 came out, as I found whilst doing some 'testing' - purely for educational purposes, of course. It can of course be defeated by using a key generator.

Apparently SP2 blocks a lot more cracked serial nos than SP1 but no doubt the crackers will soon get around this (or possibly already have done). Software copy-protection (like CD copy-protection) is so futile I really wonder why anyone bothers  .

I used to have loads of fun cracking the protection on games for the BBC Micro :)

I was under the impression they had given up with the key code things. I read somewhere it just worked now, as MS were more concerned with making sure all the Operating Systems were secure.. could be wrong, though, anyone got a link?

Installed SP2 this evening. Doesn't seem any different, oddly enough.

I am a fool or I am I daft? Every single PC in my house has a legal version of XP. However if I have any problems with keygen locking due to upgrades I will have no moral issues to do somthing I that Zerogain.com cannot encourage :p

I have installed SP2 and apart from the security centre and no pops in I.E there is no difference. The pop up is blocker is too late for me though, there is no way I could ever go back to I.E now I have experience Firefox 0.9.
