Its a forum about compression? surely that says it all?:D

I don't know enough about physics to make any comment but I am sure WM believes his theries and I have found his site very interesting.

To be fair to the site/page..

I dont think they have slagged off WM's cables at all -

Just 'cable cooking' - which has long been a contentious, much argued over subject.

I havent experimented with cable cooking enough to comment, but certainly have never noticed any cable sounding different as time progreses from new. YMMV of course.

I think the fact that Omega offer this FOC on their cables does them credit though, if it were just about money, surely they would charge to do every cable they sell.

Interesting that they use same software as Zerogain. Instantly familiar!

This has nothing to do with Big Tone or his cables. I respect his views and there is such a thing as freedom.

But I loved the 'cables have feelings' bit - its true, they resent not being used and degrade out of spite. :D

Tone's interconnects offer the best VFM possible.

I'm just waiting on another pair from him betwixt pre and power to match the pair I have between CD and pre.

They are truly marvellous and give me the kind of definition, detail and focus I'd expect from upgrading from my Naim CDX to a CDX/XPS or even a CDS2.

    Female vocals are just there...

Ah, but at least they use sound scientific reasoning and employ use of blind testing to perform tests as they recognise subjective testing is flawed at best.

Moreover, theres nothing wrong with compression when done properly

This type of debate is not unusual at hydrogen audio. I'm just surprised anyone here is interested in this type of audio site (i.e. objective).

    paul,
there's nothing wrong with compression when done LOSSLESSLY :D.

i love how a lot of the posts start with... i don't know much about cables but ..... so that's what passes for objectivity these days? the assumption that something is rubbish if it doesn't conform to the current paradigm. how progressive. perhaps they know that the music they are listening to has been processed into foul sounding twittery tripe and are trying to drag the rest of the audio community down to their level.
i for one will still be trusting my ears when judging components not someone else's measurements.
    cheers

they probably slag off anything that isnt compressed tripe in an attempt to cover up the fact they have cloth ears

Has anybody ever opened up an MP3 file into a program like Adobe Audition and noticed the nice square waves compression produces?:D

You said that on the Hydrogen Audio thread aswell. If that site is objective then the Pope is a Muslim.

As always, everything's objective if it's biased towards your viewpoint

Cable cooking? I can offer CD, amplifier, turntable and loudspeaker cooking. Just send your kit to:

    PO Box 77
    Tirana
    Albania

It will come back fully cooked and sounding really 'good' not really 'bad'. It's entirely free. Just put in a fiver for return postage.

No doubt you have come to that conclusion by reading one thread on the entire site. If you read a few more, then you'll see that they do actually have an objective approach to audio.

You seem to like having a snipe at me these days  Just because I dont agree with your bollocks half of the time.

Have you ever listened to a properly encoded compressed file and succesfully told them apart when listening, not knowing what you were listening to? I thought not

Why do you bother comeing here Paul?
Obviously your ultimate idea is a compressed format on a PC, why come here and slag off what we are into just cause it doesnt work on a PC?
All you seem to have dont lately is troll around and try to find justification to let yourself rip at anything more than a cheap cable or disc player:rolleyes:
If you dont like it, or cant offer constructive advice then dont bother posting

Sometimes I ask myself that question.

The answer is probably back in the days when HFC used to be good. When you lot were all posting, and healthy debates were commonplace. People could agree to disagree.

Now if one doesnt agree, he is banished to hell. :JOEL:

I merely stated that I am surprised that anyone who is into subjective discussions would be lurking around on a site which is into objective discussions.

I also responded to ATs little dig about how because they are about compressed audio, their opinions somehow dont count.

The next thing I know, I am getting jumped on.

I believe the effects of cables is greatly exagerrated. Yet other people seem free to express their opinions on whatever, including blatant fallacies that I've read in the past about compressed audio and PC audio, without getting flamed. As soon as I do it, I get flamed
