I was watching one of his dvds last night - 'Take the Money and run' (it came free with the times the other week) and I really enjoyed it...!

what other films with him can you lot recommend - providing you're fans...the only other one I recall (at the time of typing this) is 'all you wanted to know about sex but were too afraid to ask'...

    cheers

Love and Death is possibly my favourite of the early funny ones, but all are good. My favs are probably Sleeper, Bananas, Love And Death, Annie Hall, Play It Again Sam, Manhattan, Hannah & Her Sisters and Zelig. As time went on he got more serious and perhaps stuck in a certain genre, but the ones I’ve listed are all excellent and funny.

Bananas kills me every time I watch it, one of my favourite films ever. Other top Woody Allen films which nobody should miss are Annie Hall, Sleeper, and the magnificent The Purple Rose of Cairo.

Faves are Annie Hall, Manhattan and Hannah & Her Sisters but there are none that I don't like. Wasn't a big fan of his 'serious' films (eg Crimes and Misdemeanours) but Match Point changed that - stunning film.

I can't really think of a bad one, but "Manhattan" I think is his masterpiece. "A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy" and "Broadway Danny Rose" are also personal favourites.

Manhattan has the best acting, best script, best music and best cinematography of any film I have ever seen. And its got a young Mariel Hemmingway in it.

    Cheers

Yep - I'd have to go with Manhattan as the all time best.

In addition to the above-mentioned favorites, I like September and The Purple Rose of Cairo. I'm a Woody Allen fan and IMO it's a good idea to see them all, preferably chronologically.

Manhattan is on TCM tonight at 9 if anyone has Sky and hasn’t seen it.

I’ll still vote for Love And Death as my favourite, it is the exact tipping point between slapstick and intellectualism in his films, kind of Marx Brothers meets Dostoyevsky and is superbly balanced and hysterically funny. Cracks me up every time I see it, very possibly my favourite film.

I like Stardust Memories as well. Although not quite as good as his earlier, funnier work ;)

Actually just ahd a glance at Woody DVDs on eBay. It is possible to pick up a load for very little money. May have to start up a collection as my 'recorded from TV' VHS's are getting well knackered.

    Cheers

Manhatten was Allen's masterpiece. Annie Hall and Love and death are two wonderful films. I recently watched 'Anything Else' which is a quite recent film and is just so classic Woody Allen.
Also 'Another Woman' This is so well written, he makes film making look genuinely effortless.
However... celebrity is truly awful. kenneth Branagh does a Woody Allen impersonation all the way through the film. It has to be his worst film ever.

I'll give a third vote for "The Purple Rose Of Cairo".
