I came across the following offer in the Oxford University Press website:

    http://www.oup.co.uk/isbn/0-19-861016-5?view=ask

I have a Shorter Oxford, which is a brilliant book, but the temptation to acquire The Big Boy (20 volumes in its paper form) is hard to resist...beats buying hi-fi (is that heretical?).

I have a print version of the full OED, in a (large) single volume, extremely small-print, edition (it comes with a magnifying glass!)

It is, clearly, the greatest book ever written and everybody should have one.

My parents have the full OED in two large volumes of very thin paper and extremely small print. Also comes with a magnifying glass. It appears they've reduced this to a single volume now  .

Is there a web version of OED (even one you have to pay for)?

    Michael.

    Try

    But not cheap!

Anyway, I like to have my own, although I realise the dangers of owning such a thing - it's one of the most browseable books there is. You go to look up a word, and half an hour later you're somewhere else, the original word having been forgotten.

I still have the Latin dictionary I used at school. It's very, very, very small ;-)

I've just loaded it on to my computer. Big mistake; end of work for the day, while I chase down obscure linguistic pathways...
