The rarer examples of particular models are worth seeking out. There's thousands of Subura/Mitzubishi chaff all over the place, most are now being disfigured by youngsters with credit cards and expensive insurance bills.
I really wanted to avoid the crap that you see everyday. So I went looking for a limited edition. The most sought after for the Impreza is the 22b which is a road going version of the rally car with the same name. Not cheap at ~£25k though. There's also the P11 which is actually pretty common now.
In the end I looked at the jap market and one of the most respected models was the Tommy Kaira which is a WRX STi v2 with Prodrive tuning, uprated brakes and suspension, front/rear anti-roll bars and unique styling. This model was never released over here and is a jap only edition so there's only a handful of these cars in the country (I only know of 4 and I go to meetings up and down the North/Midlands) so its a rare example and virtually original.
Yep, its not a car that has anything to do with looking cool and I don't believe I've ever said such a thing, so not sure where you're picking those vibes up from. It does however accelerate like a jet fighter and handles brilliantly too, so its a cool car to really drive and that's why I bought it - for pleasure and fun. Like I said before its a weekend car and we go to meet ups, track days, 1/4 mile sprints or whatever else. Half the fun is talking to other enthusiasts and the other is the driving. Whilst some folks join bookclubs or talk and listen to hifi and some enjoy the theater, doesn't really matter what it is so long as its enjoyable.
I love hifi and loudspeaker DIY but its nothing compared to the thrill of driving a fast car.
