It's like telling someone they have an ugly girlfriend if you were tell them they have a rubbish hifi system.

So hidden snobbery and a look interested is always the best policy.

Jam on it by newcleus was one of the first records I ever brought. The first was the Smurf by tyrone brunson.

I dont like surround sound I only have screen because of the childen and we listen to movies through the stereo if we need to.

SO the what hifi show is not the one for me as there might be loads of black boxes with red lights!!

    thanks for turning up.

The HiFi road always starts somewhere, and 'what hifi' covers the lower priced items - in the real world where retailers have to also sell products that consumers actually buy.

Lamboy, it might be because nowadays WHF seem to concentrate on AV rather than pure stereo.

Twas said in jest my dear boy.

Some are happy with good budget equipment. I know I was. Richer sounds was a revelation. But we all get the upgrade bug don't we eh?

What I do dislike about this type of show, is the companies that just out to make money and bring out an upgrade as soon as you have saved up enough to get the black box (hopefully not with red lights) At least most of the Higher end kitchen table believe in the jargon they talk. Don't they?

Example: What was better VHS or BETA?

Beta was far superior. But they lost out on marketing. then the guys who made VHS brought out SVHS which was the same spec(roughly) as Beta and you had to pay a lot more to buy the new upgrade.

We all should have stuck to Betamax and saved ourselves some money in the first place.

    I'm confused?

    What was this tread about?

Hello tenson, I demmed the Manger drive units with you. I'm now on my own.

Your not far I might bring it round if you want a listen.

It's got over 50Khz bandwidth so its fine with the manger units.

I hope they have valve amps at the What hifi show (he says trying to keep the show thread intact)

Cheers I will put the link in my signature.

Am I the only one who thinks that there is nothing wrong with WHF? It has it's place in the market and actively encourages those who are happy with the Comet midi system to try seperates and get a better sound.

Surely it is the likes of HFN with constant reviews of ££££ piece of kit that put most people off, because they look at the cost and say "But I can buy a new car for that"

Get real guys, we all had to start somewhere.

I suppose when you put it in the context that the mag appeals to first time buyers then the mag is ok - but the problem I (and loads of other I reckon) is that thew reviews just can't be trusted - they seem to review the same brands of kit most months and the actual content of the mag varies only a tiny bit from month to month....

yeah I think it's okay. Everyone needs a beginners mag, and some people just want to be told something safe to buy for a few hundred quid (make that most people, which is why it has such a high circulation of course).

    Hi,

The What Hifi show cost, £13 advance or £15 on the door, to get in. There seems to be mainly bugdet/mid range hifi companies there, along with AV stuff. TBH there does not seemed to be many companies on show.
