If you have an Altmann Attraction DAC for sale with 192KHZ sample rate support please PM me
Based on its reputation and some feedback from people who have used the DAC. I have not heard one so its a bit of a gamble!
i don't think it's a gamble - it just depends what kind of sound you seeking for. as with any piece of kit, it has its admirers and haters. if you get one, try to find the altmann's UPCI reclocking circuit (he used to produce before he launched a DAC) and plug it in between a SPDIF feed and a DAC. the improvement is worth of investment. most likely you would get a similar (or close) result dropping any reclocker there as i've heard positive remarks about a behringer unit (SRC?) used as such. this addition elevates already a decent DAC into a real digital orbit so it can compete with more-than-average vinyl sets (this was supposed to be an enormous compliment).
Is this not the function of A switchable JISCO-function (Jitter Scrambling Decorrelator) that further increases sound quality as jitter-components from the DVD-A or CD player are decorrelated before being ultra-precision-filtered. Quoted from the Altmann WEB site
There is one for sale in Australia, contact Warwick at the PMG if interested. Shipping would not be too expensive, they are quite small as you know; http://puremusicgroup.com/cart/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=24
no, UPCI is a reclocker. it's a different thing with a similar result, that a less jitter is being converted to your analogue sound.
Oh I have the Monarchy Auido DIP... not quite the UPCI but similar. I must try this between my transport and Altmann Dac. I used it before between my transport and old Audolab 8000DAC but I never thought of using with the Altmann Dac since I thought the JISCO was doing the same job. Any thanks anubisgrau for the explantion jaspal.
you have to try it. there is no guarantee it's going to work, but than i've also tried UPCI out of curiosity and got really surprised with it. some - especially older - transports prone to the jitter really benefit from it. JISCO is not an universal panacea to the jitter.
