Any ideas where I can pick up a cheap A/D convertor ?

Doesn't have to be of stellar quality.

Maplins had one in their catalogue last year. Haven't looked since, but it's probably still there. About £30,- if I remember correctly.

If I was to use one of those with a MiniDisc deck (using its analogue outs), does that mean in theory I could do direct digitial copies to CD-R, including automatic track spacing?

any idea about 'quality'? It does not give much that I can understand on the specs.

I am interested in taking output from

    a) old but good Denon DRS 610 cassette player
    b) the suround pre-out from Denon AVR2802

converting into digital and thence to

Dax Decade dac/pre-amp and a power amp [at present I have a 'switchable' integrated].

A top-end AV processor with A/D is my sometime upgrade but this would seem to move me along.

Ditton, quality wasn't really an issue for me as I'm only using it on the SKY box, so that I can run it through my Digital only pre_amp.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Well, the Maplin A/D convertor is quite frankly crap :( .

It has a 'Sync' option (a small buffer) but if you use it the RFI is frightening; the sort of stuff that sounds like a poorly tuned radio. It's everpresent whining [a bit like English football supporters ;) :D :p ] is enough to induce a serous headache.

So the obvious solution would be to keep the Sync off. Eh, no because the sound drop outs, every 30 seconds or so, are as bad as a Swiss referee :MILD: !

    Avoid  .

Pardon my ignorance but is 'A/D convertor' the same as DAC? Or does it do things the other way around?
