What about a Cambridge 640p? You can also send them up to a guy in the north east for further upgrading when the funds permit. This is supposed to turn it into a giant killer. I have yet to read a bad review from any of the happy owners. Having said that, I haven't seen any measurements to back up the superiority of the fettled units. I have one myself and will probably take the plunge one day.

I can't comment, having not heard one. I use my Cambridge with a Rogers head amp. MC cartridge into head amp, then into the MM stage of the Cambridge. I prefer this option to going straight into the MC input.

The THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) for the Cambridge is 0.007 %. It's a lot of phono stage for the money.

What cartridge will you be using? I'm sure some more knowledgeable people will be able to help.

Thing is Billy, you can always buy a few different phono amps second hand to experiment. I wouldn't think you would lose much financially when selling on any that weren't to taste.
