Depends how portable you want them to be, there are many headphones which are quite easy to drive...

Sony MDR-EX71 for canal phones are meant to be a good match, but if you want to go up more you can use Shure's or Etymotics.

Full sized headphones, the Grados will have no problems being driven, the Sennheiser HD497, PX100/200/250, HD515/555/595 should all be fairly easy to drive.

    Beyerdynamic DT250-80, DT770-80, DT440/660/860.

    Most Sony's are easy to drive too, Sony MDR-CD380, 580, 780, 1700, 3000.

What is your main taste in music?

Is sound leakage to your surroundings going to be an issue, or for that matter are you going to be trying to listening in noisy environments? The ear canal type 'phones Paul mentioned would be perhaps more suited to these sort of situations I'd have thought.

I use the Sony MDR EX71SL 'phones at work BTW, and I'm perfectly happy with them. Well, once I realised I had to push them well into my ears as to begin with I did rather wonder where the bass had gone. Doh!

Cheers Paul, I'm currently using the upgraded apple inears for portable and a pair of phillips cans you recommended for at home, just want to go the next level as it's becoming my main source of listening to music.

Taste is urban / R&B / Hip hop so bass is important

Another vote for the Sonys. I've got the older model, MDR EX70.

I use the sennheiser mx 200 with my ipod. They are a close back model and better for sound leakage. They sound pretty good and are very comfortable.

Try the Shure E2c in ear style phones. Better than anything else. Do a search on eBay and you'll get hem for around £55

Is it a set of home headphones or portables you need?

OK, easy to drive headphones for an ipod for home use would be any of the ones I suggested above. If you can forego a little comfort then Grado's would be a good choice if you like your music upfront and lively. If you prefer a warmer, more Sennheiser-esque sound then theres always the likes of Sony MDR-CD1700's which are easy to drive and have a very warm, non fatiguing sound. Theres the Senn HD497 which is a cheap one but not bad for the money, also the HD555 might be a decent choice, but it is 120 ohm, but I guess it should be fine. The Beyer DT440 is supposed to be somewhat similar to the DT531 and that would be a pretty good choice also. Best to audition, if at all possible, however.

Avoid the Beyerdynamic 231s however. Uncomfortable for long periods, VERY ineffecient.
