I was wondering what everyone uses for a listening chair/sofa/beanbag/whatever? I ask because I've tried a few different chairs and they all had annoying resonances that would go off mightily at certain frequencies and be fairly distracting. Does anyone have a chair that doesn't resonate and annoy them when they crank their hifi to stupid levels?

(I know I need to look into some sort of platform to decouple my speakers from the suspended wooden floor as that must be transmitting most of the vibes, but some of the frequencies are quite high and I suspect are just coming through the air. The sort of frequences that set off the foam padding...)

Of course, I'm such a fool! Can't believe I didn't think of that... Might be a bit wobbly, though... Not to mention a real bitch if you stub your toe on it!

Heh, sadly not! I get genuinely annoyed by the various resonances and vibrations in my chair, and if at all possible I'd like to get one that doesn't do it so much! I thought a big, solid, comfy chair would do it so I tried one but it just had lower frequency resonaces which were just as annoying (my current chair is a fairly simple, cheap, black leather Ikea jobbie). Sounds like a joke but sadly 'tis not....

I use on of these, but with a dark blue alcantara style finish:

The finish of the woodwork is pretty lousy when you look close, but it's very comfortable, and was dirt cheap when compared to the competition.

if your chair is vibrating that means that the volume is 'sufficient'.
    cheers

My chair vibrates at low frequencies, but I quite like it, Would a cotton chairpad not help?

I would suggest maybe a sheepskin or some such, to cover chair, some of the resonances could be coming through the wooden frame, if on a wooden floor sans carpet, then place chair on a rug or get large rubber feet to sit runners on.

other than that heve'nt got a clue.

Or turn it down you anti social un neighbourly selfish bampot :)

How about a ceramic chair? Ceramic is used for spikes etc so presumably it has a non resonant character?
But then i guess that would be a toilet:D
