Oooh... make an easy topic why don't you ;). Off the top of my head these would be a good start.

Faith No More - Angel Dust

One of those rare albums I can put on and actually leave to play all the way through. With the highlights for me being Midlife Crisis and Midnight Cowboy.

    Kid Koala - Scratchappyland

A classic and rare slice of scratching filled with some wonderful samples about quitting smoking, sandwiches and turntables.

    Jurassic 5 - LP

The album that brought me from bigbeat/breakbeat into hip-hop.

    DJ QBert - Wavetwisters

Spectacular cuts and scratches combined to tell a sonic story make this one of my favourite turntabilist records in my collection.

    DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

A classic of instrumental hip-hop/trip-hop which still gets regular spins in my system.

RJD2 - Your Face Or Your Kneecaps

A mix of classic/rare 60-70's funk which was well worth tracking down.

Jimmy Smith - Jimmy Smith's Finest Hour

A spin off from my love of hip-hop, got into Jimmy Smith while tracking down original tracks that were sampled by various hip-hop artists.

    Cut Chemist - Rare Equations

Yet another rather good mix of soul/funk/hip-hop. Reminds me of going to see his live performance.

DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist - Brainfreeze

Wonderful blend of soul/funk/hip-hop put together by two of my favourite turntabilists that never fails to get me grooving.

    Edan The DJ - Fast*Rap

A non-stop mix of classic/rare hip-hop trakcs. Which helped to introduce me to some older hip-hop acts that I would have missed otherwise.

Ok this is a working list trying to pick the favoured from different genres and in no particular order

    Joni Mitchell "Blue" (LP/CD)
Priceless. Notably Little Green makes me cry each and every time and sums up my second daughter Lauren.

    Pharoah Sanders "Thembi" (LP/CD)
Could pick any of four or five from the Pharoah. Seen him live three times and he brings a strange aura with him.

Talking Heads "Remain in Light" (LP/CD)
Again could pick any of six+ albums - massive influence on me over 17 years so far.

Graeme Park recorded at The Hacienda 21/11/1991 (23:30 - 02:00) (Compact Cassette)
Fantastically architected mix, superb selection of tracks, with excellent theming. Beautifully captures one of the best years at the Hacienda and best of all recorded the night we celebrated my 21st birthday.

Gwen Guthrie "Seventh Heaven" Larry Levan mixes (EP)
Incredible honesty, pure lyrics, superb remix by one of the god fathers. Captures a post disco, post punk high point - The Paradise Garage in New York and the man who inspired a (sub)generation - Larry Levan.

Incognito "Nights Over Egypt" Masters at Work remixes (EP)
Excellent production, the effect it imparts on the dancefloor must be seen to be understood. I had to pick a MaW track and this week it had to be this one.

    Herbie Hancock "Maiden Voyage" (LP/CD)
Grew up with it and always brings a tear. Had to select a HH album - this week...

The Jimi Hendrix Experience "Are You Experienced"
    Do I need to explain?

The Stone Roses "The Stone Roses" (LP)
Maybe this is the "Never mind the bollocks" for my generation. Oh the nostalgia - its not what it used to be :)

Marvin Gaye "What's going on" (LP)
Cant believe I left it out. Thanks to Merlin for the reminder.

I've loved many albums over the years but unfortunately some of them where played so incessantly that i could probably live with out them now and just survive on memories etched into my brain. (Sex Pistols - NMTB, The Cult - Love, instantly spring to mind here).

Here are the Top 10 Lp's that have been seeing lots of action on my rig this past year, not in any specific order they are all equal #1 . BTW no attempts here to try and look cool, un-cool, political, non-political , etc , etc these are just genuinely the albums that i reach for when i get up out of bed and want to veg out to, another thing is; on these albums I love every single track !

    a) Coldplay- A rush of Blood to the head
    b) UB40 - signing off ( & madame medusa)
    c) Oasis- The Masterplan
    d) Richard Ashcroft- Alone with everybody
    e) Stereophonics- word gets around
    f) Oasis - standing on the shoulder of giants
    g) Eva Cassidy- Songbird ( her voice brings tears to my eyes - what a tragedy, what a loss )
    h) Ther Strokes - Is this it
    i) Fun Lovin Criminals- 100% colombian
    j) Ryan Adams - Gold
    k) Lincoln Mayorga Vol 3 ( mywife thinks it sounds like circus music ) I bought this as an 'Audiophile recording' on the Sheffield Labs label, just 'cause it was reasonably priced and i wanted to see what an 'audiphile recording 'sounded like. i planned to buy it, clean it , listen to it, flog it. I ended up really liking it.
    l) Deacon Blue- Raintown, Shitty thin vinyl that sounds really good !
    m) Queen - A kind of magic.

Apologies i thought that if i put letters instead of numbers nobody would notice i'd gone over my quota.

This Charles Mingus fella seems to pop up a bit. Is there a disc to start with? Also, Frank Zappa? Is it hardcore jazzy stuff though? Excuse my philistinism, but i only came across music a couple of years ago, so i'll blame it on lack of exposure.

Dino, there's no single good place to start, he made so many great records, but you might as well start with The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, his masterpiece. Other favourites: Blues & Roots, Ah Um, Pithecanthropus Erectus, Oh Yeah, Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, Presents Charles Mingus, Live at Antibes, Myself When I Am Real... You get the idea.

I'll burn you a compilation of highlights, if you like, so you can see what you make of him.

I've looked up 'The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady' on Amazon, and for £7.99 its worth a punt, so i've stuck it in the basket.

Ian, next time i come over you can give me a proper music induction course.

    cheers
