Dual 10" full range drivers with a supertweeter, no crossover, 101db efficency, 4 x 10" rear firing powered woofers per side with bass down to 16hz, 6 ohm resistive load. On the face of it they look to be a speaker of substantial engineering with some appealing attributes. These would make an ideal partner for SET and its a combo l would love to have the opportunity to hear.

    For more info see http://www.zucable.com/definition/index.html

So has anyone heard, or better still own a pair?

    Comments??

    Cheers

On the face of it a very appealing package. However after listening to them at the show yesterday, I found them to be extremely coloured and they got congested with anything other than simple accoustic music. I certainly wouldnt consider them.

They made no lasting impression on me at the show, so they must have been fairly average....not a great !

still nothing was quite as poor as the "best loudspeakers in the world"

Agree with the above comments (and I heard them at someone's house). Big in the US, for some reason.

I actually thought they were quite good... considering at the show they were being driven with a 1.5watt amp.

    Thanks for all the comments.

They are big in the US and these are the first really negative comments l have heard on them. l would think they would be very sensitive to amplifier choice and a lot of experimenting would be needed there to let them give their very best.

Trying to arrange a demo in a couple of weeks so l will post back with my impressions afterwards.

    Cheers

To me they were plain wrong. It was the Druids I heard, and I have heard them sounding better with different music. That is the rub for me.

A real lack of genuine transparency - it was as if Salome had got dressed again. I admit I really can't abide colouration whereas for some, it is a mild irritant compared to compression, but I am still surprised by the reviews.

I cannot understand the yanks, when they have the wonderful DeVore's, Merlins and Coincidents to play with.

Makes the SBL look like a BBC monitor Mike ;)

There is no way that thing can sound remotely correct without erm... correction.

    Nasty,

The lengths some people will go to to get dynamics! Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater....

To be fair, a gently falling response will generally sound prefereable to my ears to a tilted up one. But here? well it's not that gentle is it?

Each to their own I guess.

    Hi,

The Zu Druids speakers were used with Transendent pre and OTL power amps. They did sound disappointing. Simple vocal music sounded ok but other tunes were lacking. I have heard and read good things about these speakers.

Maybe with different amps they will perform better

When I heard them they had 100w 'edge' amps playing through them. This is a big class D thing.

    It sounded as described above.

With the sub they are about 4k - you can do a lot better (purely on the basis of the show, which is maybe unfair)

Seems like yet another of these products that are overhyped on the internet. Within a year I suspect that nothing will ever get mentioned about them.

The Finnish rep for Druids swears by their use with Sugden amps. says it´s the best he´s ever heard.

I'll say first that I've not yet heard them, might have to pursude a local dealer to get a pair in. Anyway apart from the rather gushing reviews the words cool, hip and 'making audio sexy' have been applied to Zu and apparently they throw a good party.

I think with the mid/high end (in the US especially) dying on it's butt the reviewers are latching on to anything interesting to hopefully enthuse the 'iPod generation'.

Good point. Couldn't they find something that sounded good though?
