Advice needed: Nait 5i vs Nait 5 vs Nait 3

That's called a marketing budget over here ;)

It's a good amp. beats anything up to £1000 IMO

But you do place far too much importance on reviews and measurements for your own musical good Berry ;)

FWIW, I heard the most realistic portrayal of music in my memory this week, and the system had those old valves distorting, the record player with no doubt measurable in accuracies and speakers that physics dictate must distort at the levels those 8 watts were capable of :D

Still, I guess it can't be accurate so must be far worse than the mighty RA1062 ;)

Budget?!... Oh I see... without breast implants...

Breast implants are very expensive, they say...

I like real women... and the measurements, I do it myself with my own hands thank you ... and you know what?... I can make them sing too and some of them are very musical indeed...

Congratulations then... I hope you can stick with this one after... how many?... several realistic portrayals of music you've heard and none like the next...

You know ***** cat, breast implants will always be breast implants no matter how hard you'll try to think otherwise or how much you are willing to pay...

the romantic part of me wants to think that the inaccuracies somehow make the music more human and 'real' just like at a live gig things aren;t perfect (unless the 'artist' is lip synching). however the programmer in me says that realism is attainable through perfection. hopefully the answer is the path between the two.
cheers

I guess you are right about breast implants Berry.

After all, you seem to be capable of making a real tit out of yourself without them ;)

BD - you should at least listen without prejudice. I'm back on the 11th and that weekend might be tricky but if you have some time between then and the new year I'll bring my DAC, preamp and power amp up to your place and you should have a listen.

You can even null test the preamp and the power amp if you like. I did some reading on the LC Audio site and since their modules use global feedback (from the output stage to before the integrator), they must have a short enough group delay to make a null test possible - it's something like 2 micro seconds I think, and anyway, isn't global feedback a good thing in your books? ;)

Anyway, what's wrong with the Rotel? I thought it was the 2nd best amp in the world after TD's amp?

Michael.

Bring it on, Michael... I'm sure the Moon Eclipse will make a fine transport to your DAC...

Now you are talking... welcome back to the 21st century... we can even compare your preamp with a "passive preamp"...

The only thing wrong with the Rotel is the fact that it is not TD's amp... it is indeed the 2nd best amplifier that I know of... but I don't know the Nait 5i yet...

So how many of these do you actually know of before we take your absolutism about the Rotel seriously then Berry?

You didn't get it yet... when Naim says that the Nait 5i is the best Nait ever, all I have to do is to take the Nait 2 (which is seen as the best Nait ever by the "HEARING IS EVERYTHING" brigade...) then the new Nait and null test both...

If the one that measures better is the one that sounds worst, I have no choice but to change either my speakers or my CD player, providing that both measure better than the Rotel (which sounds beautiful with my current set-up). The beauty of this is that I now have an objective reference... I have a starting point and one direction to go, because I'll always want better accuracy...

Both the Nait 2 and the Nait 5i, or just one of them...
