Apparently I am definitely an alcoholic! I answered that (1) I do 'crave' (more like want) a drink at certain time of the day. Usually the evening to unwind. (2) I have once had a complete loss of memory due to drinking (when I was about 14) and I also drink alone.

What about you?!

I answered yes to two questions.
But as someone who knows a few alcoholics who regularly go to aa meetings I wouldn't consider myself one.

What a load of crap. Having worked at a rehab centre and knowing an alcoholic, you need to tick a lot more than 2 boxes.

Rubbish survey, and a blatant attempt at scare mongering. The only one I answered yes to was drinking alone sometimes. I just like a glass of wine or a nice single malt. What would you expect from these guys though:

That's something I was worried about myself 3 months ago. So I gave myself an entire month off alchohol. Still went to the pub to see my mates but just stuck to non-alchoholic drinks (rediscovered ginger beer :D ). I found it really easy to go without. I thought it was going to be a lot more difficult than it was.

Doing that convinced me that I wasn't an alcoholic. I had a lot more energy as well.

I'm an alcoholic (three questions)! There is, however, the slight problem that I'm also a teetotaler who never drinks any alcohol and who never has - I guess they meant "alcoholic drink" by "drink" :D

You're my besh mate evvah, you are.

Normally my missus and I drink wine every night - weekdays half a bottle each per night (ie. two large glasses), weekends between 3/4 and 1 bottle each. At one stage we got into the habit of opening a second bottle on weekdays. This continued for some time and we got to the point where we were concerned whether we could stop without craving a drink. So we gave up for a month - apart from the first night we didnt miss never mind crave it - this put my mind at rest.

So these days every three months or so we'll go two or three weeks without a drink. I'm not saying we're not damaging our health whatsoever, but I'm happy we not addicts.

To be honest the bigger motivator for me is the huge reduction in consumed calories when not drinking. Assuming a large glass of red wine is around 160 simple carb calories - by not drinking I'm skipping at least 2240 per week which is easily the equivalent of three visits to the gym. Makes ye think.

I only ever drink socialy, but what I am worried about is if we go out during the week after work I will have about 4-6 pints, then at the weekend I will have anything from 4-10 pints. So the amount of units I drink is far too much. Even after 10 pints I don't feel that drunk, but I just stop because I know after that is when you get the memory loss and even black outs, its not worth it.

I've got a m8 who was an AA member (not the car people!), but found their evangelising ways rather too much - he's back on the booze again more's the pity and now has another catalogue of disasters for a life..
Just so y'all know, an average week for him would be about 130-140 units of alcohol...
I thought I was bad with about 35!

did the test - aparently i'm an alcoholic. even though i last drank 3 months ago and before that is was more like 3 years. the test is bollocks.
at - i thought you were skint?

Holy crap that's a lot of drink! I can't be more than 25 a week on average.
And 25 is still 4 units more than the recommended max, which allows for only about 5-6 pints of wife-beater type lager, or 10pints of "session" bitter. It's even worse for women with a max of 14...
If you're constantly worrying about keeping within the guideline amounts you'd probably keel over from a stress-related heart attack!

Ditto:D. Although I have tasted and hated it.

I usually have some form of drink every night. Normally just one pint or a double whisky or a glass of wine. It used to be then the weekend was a **** up. But nower days I often have to work on a weekend and my baby is all important, so even though the wife looks after him in the night, I don't really want to miss a thing, and if you are ****ed and been kept awake all night you are in essence useless the next day.

I worried for a while that I had an issue, because frankly I am like a bear with a sore head if I don't have an evening drink. But thats just it A drink so I don't worry so much now.

I think it is amazing you can't say ssip < here.

Not skint, just not rich, when I do go out drinking it is always wetherspoons and other cheap places. Even the clubs are often £1 a bottle.

I just prefer to spent my spare money socialising rather than on material goods now, I have realised material goods don't make me happy they just stop me from getting bored for a few hours.

That said I do need some new speakers but I am not prepaired to stay in for a month just to get them.

When you've had a bad school life and have a decent social life in your early 20's you want to make the most of every second of it.

I must admit I am drinking a lot less at weekends these days though, gone have the days of a mad 12 pint bender lasting 8 hours. I realised the £30 down and the wasted next day made it pointless.
