took my kid to see harry potter today and what did i spy in the foyer? a poster for a new 'king arthur' film. unfortunately this is being produced by that master of historical reconstruction jerry bruckheimer. after the job he did on pearl harbour and what his hollywood cronies did to u591 (or whatever it was called) i'm sure that arthur will in reality be half irish and half native american whilst guinevere will be a working girl from the bronx and galahad will in actual fact be gay. needless to say i shall be avoiding this drivel like the plague it surely is. the tag line 'the true story that spawned the legend' or some such wank says it all.
cheers

but julian whos to say his version isnt the truth, after all there isnt any firm eveidance to support any of the millions of theorys about arthur pendragon

what pisses me about this prick is that he thinks the whole world is america, I mean, 'soon the whole world will celebrate july 4 as independance day'
english accent....'oh the yanks are planning to lead us all to kill the aliens, we'd better get on board'

and of course, they won enigma from the gerrys, and the battle of britain.

Is there no end to this pricks conceit about america, no wonder foreigners hate the country so much with this kind of drivel.

rant over. big on style short on substance his films, bit of mindless fun.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story ;)

If Bruckheimer ever makes a film about the Gulf War I wonder how he would explain America's obsession with bombing its allies?

that's an easy one hex... they aren;t american and so they can go to hell - with a little help from the yanks of course.
cheers

I thought Ronald Emmerich directed Independance day

Oh, and was the Potter film any good Julian?

And as for King Arthur, well that is exactly whatever you want to make of it - Mallory is no more than a piece of light fluff anyway, and the whole thing was heavily embroidered in the 19th century as part of a concerted effort to create Britain.
I hope they shoot it in Wisconsin or Montana and the Knights wear stetsons and ride Chevy Hemis, or use it as a basis to explore the paranoia and self-hatred of a bunch of disabused WWII vets who ride round Kalifonia in the late 40s on Harley's practising Black Magic and creating havoc and chaos wherever they go.

The real story of "King" Arthur would be very dull. Arthur was a British general who, knowing how successful the Roman heavy cavalry (they were fully armoured) had been defending the eastern frontier of the Empire, formed his own company and used them against the invading Saxons, who had moved from merely raiding to colonisation. He had some successes (some of the battlefields have been identified), but he was killed in battle and the Saxons moved in, which is why you're all there now. Camelot, Merlin, Glastonbury, Lancelot, the Holy Grail, etc., etc. were entirely separate legends that got grafted on, largely by mediaeval chroniclers seeking a fine, upstanding example of Christian knightly chivalry. Ironically, the finest real-life example of Christian knightly chivalry was the decidedly non-Christian, non-knightly Saladin, but he would never have done.

mo,
harry potter was probably the best one of the series so far. a lot darker than the previous 2. worth seeing if you've nothing better to do imho.
cheers

bruckmeier had a huge hand in independance day.

Potter was excellent, really enjoyed it, much more mature than the other 2, less 'magical' and fantasy, but yes, darker, best performances from the cast so far, too. Seems like they have all grown up 5 yrs, in 6 months.
The grounds appear different, the whomping willow is in a different location, as is hagrids cabin, but I suppose, if hogwarts is a magical place, why shouldn't the grounds rearrange themselves.
Harry Potter 4 is in safe hands with Alfonso, great job. :)

I will leave out the siggy Michael ;) actually there was some guy, butuz, on the world audio forum who kept putting a valve foto in the bottom as his sig. some people, not me, got mighty annoyed it was taking so long to load every time a post came up!! They are a little relieved he is posting elsewhere ATM.

looking forward to the footy? see if you can get on Romans yacht to dinner 2 nite?

saw a trailer for 'arthur' today - he looks more like a roman legionary fighting vikings or some such twaddle. guinevere was painting herself blue and lancelot was fighting with 2 scimitars.
also saw a trailer for thunderbirds - yes yet another british institution put through the hollywood meat grinder. thank you jonathan frakes you've given us thunderbirds the next generation.
cheers
