Calling for all your amp recommendations up to £1,400

I've never felt the need to fiddle with my NADs, for what it's worth, and a second-hand S300 would be well within budget.

Off the wall suggestion.....sonic T amps [a pair] this will hardly break the bank...leaving you shed loads of money for your software.

More realistically Quad 99series or the 909 ...natural and relitively neutral, as with all good amps its the partnering equipment that should provide the character of the sound.

Valves from edenlake.com
MC368-B valve amplifier, Power output 50 watts channel Price £650.00 + £22.00 UK mainland delivery

or
MC-7R Line-level Pre-amp Price £335.00 + £15.00 UK mainland delivery
with MC845-C Mono-Block Valve Amplifiers Price £920.00/ pair + £30.00 UK mainland deliver

I have heared the edenlake stuff and it is very good

I suggest that you listen to the Unison Research Unico SE at £1350. An integrated hybrid design using valves for the pre-amp and silicon for the power stage. It has grip, yet is delicate and spacious. Read the review in the current issue of Stereophile.

Makes music like no other I heard at the price.

Heartily recommended.

Happy listening.

korsun v8, what a beast.

a helluva muscle amp on paper.

You mean the one on cattylink right?

After hearing Julains 100W Sheng-Ya mosfet/valve monoblocks, I really believe that the best possible value for money (for new goods) is from the far east right now.

I think next time Julian has a bake off, a few jaws will hit the floor when people see what you can get for under £700 brand new.

If you don't mind the fact that it doesn't really fit in racks, give Electrocompaniet a whirl. Would count the ECI3 as one of my better purchases and it comes in under budget at a grand to boot.

Pathos - Classic One - £995

A brilliant little amp, really good music reproduction, great to look at, very enjoyable. Worth a demo imo.

Ain't that the truth! Sounds gorgeous IMO :MILD:

Shame its so laid back though - rock & pop can loose some of its drive, which is a shame. Great for classic/jazz/acoustic though.

BTW the MkI is £995, MkII is £1,325.
