Hi all,

Not sure if this should be under DIY or HiFi.

I appreciate its best to keep your cd in good condition as a matter of course but if one does get mucky can anyone recomend a treatment or product that will clean that won't damage the surface? (and not too epensive!)

cheers,

David

I have tries a few things over the years, but have not found anything to beat a gentle flush over with luke warm tapwater and a wipe dry with a soft tissue. If there are still bits of finger prints or strawberry jam, flush again and wipe gently over with childrens hand soap - Kandoo in a pump bottle works wonders - and flush wipe again.
Yeah I have children!
Never had a problem with CD deterioration etc.
Acrylic and similar plastics can absorb a small amount of moisture, so its best to let them dry thouroughly before putting away in a box.
Bet this starts some contraversy!

Sounds fine to me. I use Windolene to remove greasy pawprints.

someone (I think Robbo) told me that he thought antistatic photocopier cleaning fluid is the same as Russ Andrews Relees, or at least had the same effect.

I'm not claiming any sonic miracles but that's what I use when they're grubby.

stops dust from sticking to your PC screen and telly too.

now there an interesting thought ....as its supposed to work well.

I've used armour all in the past ...and heard that rainex has an effect.

Any thought about the stuff used to clean records .....deionised water drop of meths or other alcohol and a drop of eco detergent ?

I've used Rain-X or the Halford's equivalent. This also improves the sound of the disk and it has improved "skipping" disks.
Regards,
Jim
