Hi

Anyone able to tell me how to change the name of the various drives on my computer?

I'm sure it was simple on a mates computer who was using win2000, but can't seem to find it on xp pro. Is the process different on 2000 and XP?

Cheers

MO

Are you trying to change the name of the volume or the drive letter?

The first is as Paul described. The second is also possible but you need to be careful as it can have some "interesting" consequences ;)

right clickin the drive doesn't give me the oprion to rename it.

MO! See the attached screenshot (sorry about the poor quality - wanted to get it below 20K). That's what I get when I right click on the drive. 2nd from last option is Rename. Don't you get that?

Michael.

Well it shows up on the Hard drive and the floppy, just not on the dvd and cd-rw drives.

As with MOst of my computer ramblings, it's not that important, just curious. My girlfriend was wanting to know how to do it (windows 2000 I think) and I thought it was a simple right click and rename.

You cant rename a CD-ROM drive, the name is written into the CD itself, and can vary from CD to CD.

You rename drives in computer management (where the defrag is located) in win2000. I renamed mine how I wanted.
