I'm sure many of you have seen them on the tv. Absolutely riveting performance of dance and circus performances with live music and singing...

Weekend before last I was in Las Vegas, and decided to go to one of their shows there. It was rather steep at $95 per person, but decided to go anyway. The particular show, of the 4 that are permanently based in Las Vegas, was "Mystere" at Treasure Island.

It was worth every cent. For nearly two hours (more if you count the part of the performance that starts before a good proportion of the audience arrives... be early!) I was sat on the edge of my seat, trying to take in every bit of the performance.

It was an amazing mix of comedy, hugely skilled gymnastics, beautiful dance, excellent lighting and brilliant live music.

If you have the chance to go and see them it's well worth it. I've heard that some of their shows have been a bit disappointing (at the albert hall). Perhaps the shows that are permanently based in vegas (Mystere has been running for 5 years and was very nearly sold out on the night I went) in purpose-built theatres are more polished and not compromised by venues and requirement to travel.

I have a feeling that when I'm in vegas in january that I'm going to bankrupt myself seeing another Cirque du Soleil show and possibly also Bluephoria (The Blue Man Group's new show... those blue people who did the intel advert a year or two ago).

There was an article recently in light and sound international about the show, each seat has its own pair of speakers built into them so the audiance get the best sound,a very large and heavy moving floor and enough lightingand sound equipment to make pink floyd look like a mobile disco not the sort of that show tours very easily

At a guess that article was about their newest one, KA, which is showing at the MGM Grand.
