    Hi Mr Cat,

I'm thinking of selling my MF X80 amp if youre interested? Only about 5-6 months old, mint, boxed as new? Hell of an amp.

i'm from Teesside. You can demo any time. I use it with my Yamaha 640SE the same way as you do with your NAD. It sounds great with movies and music. Neutral sounding. Very well matched to the Yamaha.

I also use a MF X-DAC (HDCD model), and the system gels well together.

I'm after £240. Let me know what you think.

yeah, I know this may sound cheeky - but any chance I could demo at my gaff..? - I'd pay for the motion lotion - whether or not I buy it the amp...

I'm looking for the upgrade to be more on the music side than the dvd...

it would take about an hour from yours I guess - up the a19 - then across the a181 (vis durham), or maybe through bishop auckland...

to be honest i'm stuck for time at the moment - I only moved house a fortnight ago and my time is limited. If you have transport, I would prefer you to come through - you are welcome to bring along any equipment to demo with.

If not, it may be a few weeks before I can make it through your way.

I'm just reading the review (from -http://www.musicalfidelity.com/mf/en/Products/XSeries)

    which states the following -

By our standards the X-80 is quite low powered. To compensate for this you should use higher efficiency loudspeakers (preferably more than 92dB for 1 watt) used this way the X-80 produces fantastic sound. It has the same circuitry and PCB as the highly regarded award-winning X-150 but with about 3dB less power, no phono stage and more modest aesthetics. If you're prepared to hunt around a bit for high efficiency loudspeakers then the X-80 offers fantastic performance at a modest price.

and the speaker I have are rated at -
    Design 3 way bass reflex
    Drive units 130 mm (5.25") UNI-Q® with
    19 mm (3/4") aluminium dome
    130 mm (5.25") woofer
    Frequency response at 15°
horizontally off axis ±3 dB 42 Hz - 27 kHz
    Crossover frequency 250 Hz - 2.8kHz
    Amplifier requirements 15 - 150 W
    Sensitivity (2.83V/1m) 90 dB
    Maximum output 111 dB
    Impedance 8 Ohms

in laymans terms - will it not sound that good or..?

    cheers

ok, i've just been on the KEF website to check the spec of your Q4s, and they are the same sensitivity (90db) as my Mordaunt-Short Avant 906 fronts...

It works perfect with mine. And despite the figures, this is very powerful amp.

Just a thought ...does your nad have those 'U' links in the back ? if so why not replace them the really limit the performance. I've just made up some silver ones for my self and a couple of other people.....I've that old 3020 in the conservatory. The difference was considerable....pm if your intrested

Amp wise why not the VR 70 E 40 watt runs el34's costing just under £200 on ebay...there's alot on the web about them ...mainly in german though.

Greg all those can be had for about £350. That's the price I sold my 62/140 for and I've seen many go for about that since. You have to look and be patient but it won't take long. I'll post some links up when I get home if I get chance

sLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC, mR CAT, WHY WOULD LINTONE NOT LET YOU HOME DEMO - THEY SEEM TO PRIDE THEMSELVES IN DOING THIS SORT OF THING AND i'M SURPRISED THEY DIDNT (ALTHOUGH ITS BEEN A FEW YEARS SINCE i WAS THERE MYSELF) AW gOD, CAPS, SORRY!
Was it the metro centre store, or Gateshead high street one - do you know? The metrocentre one, IME, is considerably worse than the G'head high Street one for customer service.

Probably because it's a £800 amp they're selling for £350. They wont be making much profit and probably cant be ersed with demos.

If you think its worth the hassle I would give them a ring - they have always been helpful to me. Explain your situation and see what they say.....

    Best of luck
