Ok, seeing as theres so many car discussions here I thought I'd get a few opinions on my own little problem of the moment. I've not long got myself a van. W reg Peug Boxer. Its been having trouble starting the last couple of mornings. Turning over for ages but not firing. Did it yesterday and I pumped the pedal a bit and it seemed to work but think that was just coincidence as this morning I did the same but didn't seem to make any difference. Spurting out a puff of smoke on each turn and then eventually rumbles into life with a big cloud of smoke. Took ages though so a bit embarassing sat there blowing smoke rings for a while. Started fine leaving work yesterday so just been a morning thing at the moment. Any ideas? Had a new fuel pump fairly recently so wondered if it was something to do with that but surely then it would be every time and it would be noticeable under normal driving too?

Well, I'm surprised no one mentioned it but I had the glow plugs replaced and 3 were faulty hence it wasn't starting when the engine was cold. Nil points to the ZG mechanics I'm afraid! ;)

    zero indeed...

i had an issue with my last (escort) van...it was losing power intermitently, actually felt just like the turbo packing up....it was bizarre you felt yourelf checking if you'd left the handbrake on accedently.......no...

It turned out it was the adance/retart on the fuen injector pump. I was directed eventually to a diesel specialist near Bridgenorth 1.5 hrs from me.....

It was a two man band affair out in the middle of no-where.....the guy knew instantly what it was, repaired it in 1/2 hour. :)

By then it was pretty sick.

I had contacted several other diesel specialists (+a main Fo*d agent!); they all wanted to keep the van for two days and pretty much a blank cheque. :(
