This isn't them, but look very similar

My dog's quite keen o eating them by the looks of things so far. Calmed down a bit, but will need to see how she goes.

They're Call Ducks which are meant to be one of the cuter and funny types, but also noisy. These li'l fellas seem quite quiet so far though. Probably quite confused still.

They haven't started laying eggs yet sorry Ian :p

Was funny as they were looking quite nervous, than as soon as I put them near the pond they jumped in and didn't seem to have a care in the world! The dog even seemed to stop bothering about them too!

Well the difference is called farming. Some animals are kept in obscene conditions - particularly chickens and pigs in the UK, and every type in most countries.

One of the ducks escaped! Managed to find its way into next doors garden!

My dad got some VERY weird looks when he went round to get it back.

"My duck's got into your garden, is it ok if I go and get it"

I was going to help him catch it, but thought it was best to just stand and watch :) He tried making some jokes, but the neighbours just sort of stood their in shock!

Haha! Fun times ahead me thinks!

    First eggs arrived today!

I've been told they'll probably start trying to hide them when they realise we keep taking them away.

I think i'll let someone else try them first. They look a bit pale to me.

Maybe you should feed the eggs to the dog. Seriosuly though, how are the ducks working out as pets?

I don't understand how people can be concerned with cruelty yet drink milk - produced by keeping cows permanently in calf, and male calves being slaughtered for pet food.
    Very compassionate.

Well im afraid you are dillusioned if you think that it true. Many fish are very much intensively farmed. take salmon for example, kept in giant baskets/cages in the highlands, at incredibly high stock rates. This is just one example.

furthermore, for me its more an issue of where the meat has come from. I think its important that the animal has been well looked after and led a good life and this then also means the meat will also be much tastier and do far more justice to the animal.

I had a delicous fresh haunch of venison the other day, which was given to me by a friend who went stalking. There are so many ways of getting good quality local meat, and it neednt always be expensive. The culling of dear for example means that vension is plentiful.

And while i'm playing with the digi cam, here's one of the frog things too. There's 3 of them. They stay in the tank all the time. Don't really know anything about them.

They don't taste too good when you lick them either.

For all I know, they're toads, not frogs. I know nothing about them.

mrs johnh would be appalled if she read this thread, she's french and ducks as pets rank somewhere close on the stupid scale as spending money on cats/dogs at the vets.

ducks as pets - force feed 'em I say
