foo foo mains box

i have been using the mk1 for almost a year now, and "coherent" really does some it up. along with the power cords, it just ties everything together and gives it a huge presence. i would like to demo the mk2, but expect i will be having to part with my hard earned!

Now, I could wet your appitite further, by saying I may have created a B/C slayer  More in a the fullness of time. Wm

Well having just invested in a belcanto, I'm not looking forward to its slaying! However, I wonder whether the poweramp is the Achilles Heel for power conditioners.

Consider a 3 box system like what I got (CD transport; dac/pre; poweramp), then I'm sure each would benefit from cleaner electricity, and lack of inteference from external surges - fridge, washing machines etc. But, and I think you may have put such thoughts in my head, surely the poweramp causes surges that interfere with the cdp & dac? Doesn't that undermine the 6 socket, single power conditioner box?

As an aside, I went to a jazz set yesterday evening in a local pub - its the JAzz&Blues Festival in Edinburgh this week coming, with the following line-up: singer Freddie King, alto & tenor saxaphones, guitar, double bass and drums. The only powered amplification was for the singer and the guitar - the rest was just wrist and puff!

I allowed myself one brief moment (before getting back to enjoying myself enormously) to hold the sound and shape of the two sax'phones, as I was hearing them live, quite close up, with the other three instruments in support. They were each and as a pair very together - coherent even? - with clear placement of the rhythm section Mentally, I compared this with what I experience with CD reproduction through my hifi set up, and what I want that to be.

This morning I've been playing the two CDs I bought from the tenor sax player who was over from NYC (Frank Perowsky). It gets close but I miss the company, the visual and the alcohol.

Now, back to that FooFoo ...

Its an easy job to replace the UK three pin plugs on your cables with US style plugs - it took a ham fisted idiot like me less than 10 mins to do 3 of them.

The foo foo box works very nicely with Naim amps, the same benefits are apparent.

All the Cyrus kit comes with 3 pin and 2 pin plugs. Confirmed that the 2 pins would work with Cyrus HQ today so have added to the demo list once boiler is fixed.

Power master mk2

I've got one of these foo foo boxes, a PM2, and it's been plugged in for the last two weeks. I'm amazed the effect the little box has on the sound, it's just astonishing. Combined with Connoisseur mains cables, the differences weren't subtle. There's now a larger sound stage, improved imaging, more detail, and an extension of the bass and treble. Also, there's a rightness about the music being played. Marvelous.

hang on guys, none of this is helping ... I may end up buying one of these things! I think I ought to do the upgrade to the dac first, making it balanced to take advantage of the bc evo4, and then fuss about replacing rca with fully balanced cables, but this mains stuff seems like a major tweak.

personally for me, the mains leads and foo foo box had a much bigger impact than the interconnects or speaker cables.... (which did have an impact too, just not as dramatic)
