    HellOoOooOooOooOoOooo!!!!!!!!

I seem to have a habbit of shouting at the tv and saying "you muppet" and "what the f@#k you doing!!!!!!!!" when things go bad in football.

I think I'm a world class manager in waiting! Just need to tune my skills a little!

So, I fancy having a go on one of these football manager games. I used to have one but it was pants! Very basic and didn't seem to have any real influence over things. I popped into the local computer shop and frankly didn't have a clue. I used to be all hip and down with the scene maaaaaaaan! Now I felt like a dirty old man as I reached for the top shelf to compare the various titles while hundreds of screaming kids run around going "mummy mummy I want this for christmas!" (only to start demanding it NOW NOW NOW as they leave the shop!).

My lowly p.c is but a mere 450MHz 192MB running XP effort. This seemed plenty a few years back! But looking at what's on offer (good to see Martin O'Neil on the front of one of the games :D ), it appears I need at least a 700MHz to meet the minimum requirements!!!!

C'MOn!!!!! Surely this is overkill yeah? Are these spec's over marked or are they a realistic indication of what's required?

It managed Half Life fine when I got that a few years back.

    Thanks for any help

    MO :D

MO!, you want "Championship Manager 4":

    http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/games/info.html?gmid=144

...I know and care very little about footie games but this one is so famous it's practically a gaming legend. Championship Manager in its various incarnations has always been THE footbal manager game bar none.

As to the specs of your PC, I'm afraid that 450Mhz won't really cut it any more for most interactive 3D games but AFAIK CM4 is less demanding than most games. If you have a decent graphics card and turn off some of the more power hungry 3D graphics options you should be able to get most games to play acceptably.

Even on my 933Mhz PIII with 512Mb ram and a pretty decent (if older) NVidia GeForce graphics card I can no longer run the latest games in completely full on graphics modes. I have to either lower the resolution or turn off some graphics options :(

These kids with their 2.4Ghz P4s, they don't know how lucky they are! I remember playing Elite perfectly well on my BBC Micro with a 2Mhz processor and a whopping 32Kb of RAM. In those days programmers knew how to write tight and solid code, not like the bloatware of today :(

Oh, I nearly forgot to add: "It were 'ard workin down't pit when I were a yung lad!" :D

Managing a football team can be bad for your health
Just ask Gerard, Kenny, Barry, Steve, Joe, and don't forget Jock.

I just don't understand why people do that  My usual reaction to that kind of comment at football on TV (often from my wife :shame: ) is "Why don't you go down there then and show them how it's done?" Not many adequate responses to that :torkmada:

    Jock Stein's not dead!!!

He's just hanging out with elvis ;)

I seen Celtic play at Ninian park (where Mr Stein died) and it was the first time they'd played there since. There was a minutes silence before the game but they failed to make it well known. MOst people were singing and didn't realise it was happening! Then when people clicked the silence was alMOst instant......... except for one pissed up guy singing on his own  (doubt he realised what was happening either). Ended up with a guy stood just behind me shoutin across the stadium "That man's no a ****in catholic" :D Was hillarious at the time

You'll probably hear me shouting with joy tonight when Celtic take at least a point away to Lyon and get to the last 16 of the Champions league :D We've got a poor away record though and last time we played at Lyon's stadium was when King Larsson had his leg break  We beat them well at home, but our very good home record is in high contrast to our away results!

    C'MOn the Hoops!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, and I know it would have been good for Scottish football, but watching rangers fail so miserably was amusing...... all the MOre so as the Panathonaikos (?@sp) supporters were all wearing their green and white hooped shirts, complete with shamrocks! :D:D:D

oh yeah, and back to games :D

It says that CM4 requires 600MHz minimum

Any ideas how I go about upgrading my processor :D I've got a PIII. Is it just a case of replacing it with a faster one? Or do I need to replace the MOther board too?

    Cheers

Build your own PC for Christmas

Have a look at these 3 grades of machines and see if you fancy building one of them , now might be a good time tp junk an old machine or pass it on to others. The Budget Games Machine might be a runner.

    Cheers for the link auric!

A project for the new year me thinks! They make it sound very easy but the MOst I've ever done is put a bit or RAM in and put a cd-rw drive in.

Idealy I'd like to do it bit by bit. Would it be practical and do-able to say, get a new MOther board (and maybe the processor at same time), and just replace my current one with it? Then after i've changed the graphics card, and such just get a new case for the newer stuff and put the old stuff back in here?

I can't believe how much cheaper it appears to make your own!!!

There are at least two people here (Isaac Sibson and Goomer) from www.enscape.net who know a thing or two about modding PCs ;)
