Andy said:From a customers point of view,if i feel looked after when i go into a store and walk away happy with my purchase, i'm more likely to recommend the shop and customer care to friends interested in the same thing.
On the other hand, if there's a patronising prick behind the counter not listening to what i want but trying to sell me what he gets the best profit margin on,i won't be going back and i'd probably tell twice as many people about my bad experience.
A hell of a lot of business is gained by recommendation, sometimes more so than advertising.
Even if a "timewaster" doesn't buy something from the store, they still could give others feedback on their experience. Especially on a forum like this one.
Free advertising?
It costs nothing to be nice
"The times they are a changing"
Everything goes in circles, small specialists who are experts in their subject, local, known by local people, part of that *community* butcher, baker, candlestickmaker and of course radio and television shops. Local service.
Now they are all closed or closing, very few left. Their one asset local service and local association now gone, expertise largely gone in order to save overheads. A lad who couldn't give a toss employed on minimum wage. On Epping High St the last greengrocer has just closed, given up the struggle against the Tesco down the road, progress? People drive miles to get cheaper prices, pile it high sell it cheap rules. Unsustainable extravagance.
*What comes around goes around*
Next step is already with us, on line locallisation of the globalisation. I can *order* locally from anywhere in the world on my PC, my PC is now my High Street, service is different but it is still pile high sell cheap motivated. BUT I believe ***YOU*** are the future, community is no longer on your street, community is now more and more on line, largely unbiased expertise and ignorance

Open your minds and perception laterally, things are becoming interesting, focus on community and our local High Street, *on line*. In my very serious opinion we are the beginnings of big changes and it is happening in many industries. Others are seeing things the same. There is a project at the moment from very well known Hi Fi industry people looking at combining information, reviews and news, with discussion, local community sales, small scale manufactures and cablers et al given space to market their wares, the new High Street.
