Well there are a couple of em, if they went to the wall, not many of us would exactly weap.

Its not all bad for the mags. HFWs circulation went up 20 odd percent last year apparently and they aren't going AV. They are just doing a lot of stuff which is just interesting as well as the usual reviews of the latest blah blah yada yada, which many aren't interested in.

IMO HFW and HF+ are the only ones with any chance of survival. There certainly isn't room HFN and HFC and IMO both will go to the wall unless they cut costs dramatically or sell out to AV/HT completely (like WHF had done).

I agree with you here. HFW is always enjoyable, enthusiastic and don't mind heading off the beaten track. Look at their review of the Sonic Impact t-amp and also the review of SRM Tech turntable accessories. Can you see any of the others doing this ?

HF+ was great when it came out - new names reviewing kit, decent music section and even articles on bands/labels. But the writers seem to come from HFC now and hardly any from the early mags get to write reviews.

I enjoy Stereophile but mainly for MF, JM and AD columns which I always enjoy reading. I enjoy reading Wes Phillips reviews as well even though I dont; always agree with them.

Do people into HT read HFN or do they read one of the specific HT titles who make no attempt to do hifi ?

I still like Hifi+. Read less and less of it now but I find I can pinch ideas from stuff by looking at the pictures :)

    Yep the pictures are good.

I alawys enjoy reading RSF columns especially when he goes on about record labels and collecting them - great stuff.

It's the only uk mag I subscribe to and is still the best - just has the same reviewers as HFC almost.

Do you speak Dutch, I doubt. They may look good but they stay very much on the surface.

HiFi plus was a very enjoyable mag, lots of reviews on kit not seen elsewhere, these days its just speakers, speakers, speakers. I like the photography, format and print quality. I'd like to see more critical reviewing and more source component reviews.

I ve sort of revised my opinion of HFW, its my current favourite, the closest we have to an ideal: DIY, retro, leftfield components, not afraid to tell it like it is, its an enthusiasts read.

HiFi news? cant see it improving unless they bin the AV.

Did you got a little tired from the non-believers nagging on our hear-forum, amice?

To be honest Erik I think this forum is often very informative and enjoyable. I was very good advised on the issue of subsonic problems.

I'm on a Dutch, German and your forum. Is is funny to see the differences. For example if you want to know something about Thorens just go to the Germans.

it would be interesting to have a cross-natonal review. Are we (Brits) unduly influenced by the US, fixated on UK-branded products, and completely ignorant of products/developments from other European countries? I am assuming that zerogain (and maybe a few other UK-based forum) do have a fair number of non-UK members.

German hifi is not that popular in Holland apart of Audio Physic speakers and may be Transrotor turntables. We used to like British hifi, but now Italian audio is very popular. I think your pound is too expensive.

Personally I like Anglo Saxon audio.
