    so good i bought one
    Ruark Logrhythm

get yer name on the waiting list for one too!
great review on hfc, excellent extension and detail and really does add something to the sound aside from bass- better separation between midrange and bass as well as a firmer stereo image.

and i haven't even tried it with movies yet!

ok, couple of points. this walks all over a Strata III apparently, and the double stacked magnet drive unit is made by Audax and the amplification by BK Electronics (also the vendor in this case).Ruark just make, and design the cabinet.

I think you might find that REL's electronics are also made by BK ;)

interesting that it is said to walk all over the Strata III...

even if just from a quick look at the specs, the Ruark seems to have a frequency response (30-120) that doesn't reach the depths of that the Rel reaches (20-120Hz if i am not mistaken).

of course quantity does not mean quality, but given that a decent standmount like an ATC scm12 goes as deep as 40 or even 35Hz (and surely floorstanders can go lower than that) i wonder how much difference it will actually make.

but i know very little about subwoofers... so i could be way off mark here.

just a thought, though... but the price, compared to that of a Rel Strata III, is pretty enticing! :)

Kelly have a very simple way of puting it.

    https://www.audio-forums.com/as-rediect/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4718

However, the key is indeed experimenting and you really should buy a basic sound pressure meter. It is like a photographer trying to work without a light meter. Possible but most likely you will try to turn the sub volume a bit too high to start with.

    very interesting thread, thanks wolfgang.

(but i wasn't trying to say that it is pointless to have a sub, just trying to compare the specs of those two)

always keen on learning a thing or two, though. :)

Well Mja claim 15hz for the puny 8" driver and 50 watt amp in my sub, and ill eat my hat if the ruark doesnt go considerably lower and louder than that! These specs are never quoted on a level playing field, puls or minus what db etc

Not sure if it would be as musical though. Cracking price mind, got me tempted

Anyone got theirs yet?... mine arrived this morning, brand spanking new, Ruark badge on it (i thought for some reason it would be unbadged).

Have not had much chance to play yet, but did get it hooked up, trying it with my Quad 988s, might be difficult to integrate as they are Dipolar, but I'll have a go!

If it doesn't work out with the Quads, I'm sure it will will go in the AV setup in the living room where I don't currently have a sub.

    closer than you think
I have tried the ruark (on dem for a month -good old English Audio)and it,s a very good sub for its original £800 price ticket .
I also tried the rel strata at the same time
In my room at the time the ruark went deeper than the rel it also had amazing power .
The only thing that troubled me was that it felt a bit slow on its feet (compared to the strata , and the kef 30b)
I think the reality of this is that it was plumbing depths that the other two weren,t.
the ruark nearly stayed , at the time I was waiting for some jblti2k to turn up for me to dem and I ended up knocking it back in case I fell in love with the jbls .(lots of money at the time £1900 with stands)
hope this is of use .

    couple of points here:

1/ don't take any notice of specs.
2/ those atcs, you will be very lucky to get 60 hz, a smallish driver in a smallish sealed box.

a lot of big floorstanders are only around 45-50 hz in reality, even ATC smc 100s are 40-45.

don't buy what they tell you.

In the old days all REL subs were made by BK Electronics but the introduction of the Q150 etc co-incided with the transfer of production to their own newly acquired facilities.

BKE make the subs for almost everyone else though
